STAFF PRESENT:
CALLED TO ORDER:
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: Steve Brown
February statistics reflected an increase of 5% over the same time last year.
Hardware problems caused a series of crashes this week with the library computer system.
Replacement parts for an IBM 3600 are scarce. We hope that these problems will not cause
too much of a disruption to public service.
After accepting the reference position, Tim Sibley changed his mind. Two long-time employees are
leaving: Rosalee Fleming is retiring at the end of April, and Susan Dodich is moving to
Colorado.
Toddler Time on Tuesdays has been well received. Helen Krejci, with the assistance of Joy
Plowman, coordinates this program.
The annual city budget process has begun with requests for telecommunications and building
services due this week.
We received an offer from the Saginaw Public Library to participate in reciprocal borrowing. Mr.
Brown will explore the details and report at the April meeting for the Board's recommendation.
Books on tape were requested in the recent grant application for $2,500 from the Texas Book
Festival. Winners will be announced on April 1 O.
The Library home page has been completed and will be added to the city's page within the next
week.
Mr. Brown reviewed with board members the recent book sale at the North Hills Mall. He will be
attending a meeting to discuss the sale; however, he will not commit to participate next year. It may
be more advantageous to hold a sale at NRHPL as we did last spring.
Extensive discussion followed on the need for a library facilities master plan. Mr. Brown will prepare
a presentation for the April meeting that will encompass possible alternative options.
Following explanation by Mr. Brown of our recent staffing challenges, plans for opening on
Wednesday evenings have been postponed.
Mr. Cunningham announced that city officials will arrange for a bond sale in April that will include the
library automation system.
Next meeting was scheduled for April 17, 1997. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
