HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1997-01-16 Minutes CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES January 16, 1997 BOARD PRESENT: Joyce Moody, Mary Shilcutt, Carol Benoit, Avis Crisp, Lynn Waller, and Kay Schmidt (Absent: Polly Brinkley, Debra Kimbrough) Larry Cunningham, Assistant City Manager Steve Brown, Library Director Brenda Lewis, Secretary Chair Kay Schmidt at 7 p.m. Minutes of November 21 and October 17, 1996 STAFF PRESENT: CALLED TO ORDER: APPROVAL OF MINUTES: REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: Steve Brown At the December meeting, City Council approved participation in area-wide telecommunications networking discussions with other cities and non-profit groups. SCORE volunteers began small business counseling on Mondays from 10 a.m. to closing in addition to Thursday evenings. The Library will host Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) staff trained by the IRS to provide free tax help beginning January 25 through the April filing deadline. The Circulation Department has a new full-time clerk in training; however, we are still short a part- time circulation clerk. Lynn O'Day, who is on medical leave, hopes to return next Monday. Our new Children's Librarian Helen Krejci started work on January 6. Three computers were purchased recently with NTRLS grant money. Two have been used to upgrade reference computers. The third is now our first PC in the children's department for patron use. All library locks have been changed to improve security. Volunteer Glenda Gill, who has experience in WEB design, is currently working with staff to develop a library information page as part of the city's home page. At a future board meeting, a discussion of methods to improve the availability of test guides to patrons would be helpful. Mr. Brown reminded members of the Book Sale at North Hills Mall in February and asked for volunteers to staff the sale table. A tentative schedule of work hours was prepared. Brenda Lewis will telephone workers with a reminder the week of the sale. Mr. Brown asked anyone interested in attending TLA Legislative Day in Austin on February 10 and 11 to contact him for details. Following discussion of the final revisions, Joyce Moody moved, Mary Shilcutt seconded, and motion carried to approved the NRHPL's Plan of Service for 1997-2002. Mr. Brown reviewed in detail the Library's annual fiscal report to the Texas State Library. Next meeting was scheduled for February 20, 1997.
