HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1993-04-15 Minutes CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES APRIL 15, 1993 BOARD PRESENT: ABSENT: Jay Bradshaw, Kay Schmidt, Jan Daniels, Rosemary Herod, Mary Shilcutt, Shirley Goolsby Polly Brinkley and Alisa Wood STAFF PRESENT: Wynette Schwalm, Library Manager Betty Russell, Assistant Manager CALLED TO ORDER: Chairman Jay Bradshaw at 7:05 p.m. Minutes of March 18 were approved as written. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: ** ** REPORT OF LIBRARY MANAGER - Wvnette Schwalm ** ** ** City Manager Rodger Line is recuperating following by-pass surgery. The 1993/94 line item budget submitted on April 15 includes an approxi- mate 4% increase over last year's request. The largest increase was for materials from $99,000 to $116,000. Decision package items will be submitted in May. Assistant Manager of Public Services Mignon Morse has resigned effective June 1 to pursue other employment. Adult Services Librarian Barbara Thede has retired; Children's Librarian Deb Liptak has moved from children's to reference. Circulation Clerk Eric Fairfield has left to pursue a career in sports medicine; Donna Gooch has accepted this circulation position. Margaret Massey has joined the circulation staff. Jim Browne has hired a consultant to plan the best way to utilize the available funding for lighting upgrades for the public services area. NRHPL has 1.8 materials per capita compared with the Texas average of 2.17 and the national average of 3.5. These comparisions are with cities in the same population range. REPORT OF LIBRARY ACTIVITIES Shirley Goolsby and Betty Russell reviewed the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in San Antonio in which they both participated in March. Betty Russell reported that the NTRLS committees recommendations will be on the North Texas Library system meeting agenda for the April 22 meeting in Weatherford. FUTURE PROGRAMS Book Break - April 28 and May 26 Night of 1,000 Stars - April 20 Battle of Books - April 22 Earth Day - April 17 American Culture Series - May 13 and 22 CITY DIRECTORY/CRISSCROSS DIRECTORY INFORMATION SERVICE Following extensive discussion and review of the current procedure, Jan Daniels moved, Shirley Goolsby seconded, and motion carried to accept the staff recommendation to discontinue this service. The Library's Information Services Policy (LIB-OOOS) was revised to include this information. UPDATE ON LAST MONTH'S STATISTICAL REPORT - Wvnette Schwalm February statistics were corrected. In future, volunteer statistics will be separated for library volunteers and the adult learning center volunteers. Next meeting was scheduled for May 20.
