CALL TO ORDER Chairwoman Kay Schmidt called the meeting to order November 16, 2006 at 6:05 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes recorded and approved by the Library Board. 3. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Steve Brown updated the Library Board on the following: The doors to the main entrance of the library were not functioning properly for two weeks. The North Richland Hills Public Library is participating in the statewide TexShare Program. The databases give access to over 10,000 journal titles for an annual cost of $2,230. This subscription would normally cost over $170,000. The library also subscribes to the Texpress Courier Program for $900 annually. This program saves the library on postage fees. The library participates in the TexShare Card Program, which allows library cardholders to use their card at any other participating public library and academic libraries in the state of Texas. Hennen's American Public Library Ratings reports North Richland Hills Library as the highest ranked public library in Texas in the 50,000 to 100,000 population category for the second year in a row. The library loaned over 58,000 items last month. This figure is down 1.9% from October, 2005. Mr. Brown met with the interior designer for the new library on November 13th. Proposals will be submitted mid January, 2007. Bid packages will be ready in March 2007. The City's goal setting retreat was held on November 14th and 15th, 2007. The Director's of all departments attended the retreat this year. Mr. Torres said information is being compiled, and a report will be made public. The link to the library webcam and photo gallery is now available at nrhtx.com. Viewers can see live construction of the new library. Ms. Birkes asked about the removal of a tree at the library construction site. Mr. Torres said it was removed due to the addition on the building. 4. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Ms. Schmidt opened the floor for nomination of the vice chair. Mr. David Nelson volunteered, and the Board approved. 5. UPDATE ON LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION Mr. Steve Brown announced that the first construction meeting will be held November 1ih. A discussion was held on the type of bricks that will be used in construction of the library. A discussion was held on the naming of the library. Mr. Torres recommended sending a letter to the naming committee over the next couple of months.
