LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Steve Brown updated the Library Board on the following:
The doors to the main entrance of the library were not functioning properly for two
weeks.
The North Richland Hills Public Library is participating in the statewide TexShare
Program. The databases give access to over 10,000 journal titles for an annual cost of
$2,230. This subscription would normally cost over $170,000.
The library also subscribes to the Texpress Courier Program for $900 annually. This
program saves the library on postage fees.
The library participates in the TexShare Card Program, which allows library cardholders
to use their card at any other participating public library and academic libraries in the
state of Texas.
Hennen's American Public Library Ratings reports North Richland Hills Library as the
highest ranked public library in Texas in the 50,000 to 100,000 population category for
the second year in a row.
The library loaned over 58,000 items last month. This figure is down 1.9% from
October, 2005.
Mr. Brown met with the interior designer for the new library on November 13th.
Proposals will be submitted mid January, 2007. Bid packages will be ready in March
2007.
The City's goal setting retreat was held on November 14th and 15th, 2007. The Director's
of all departments attended the retreat this year. Mr. Torres said information is being
compiled, and a report will be made public.
The link to the library webcam and photo gallery is now available at nrhtx.com. Viewers
can see live construction of the new library.
Ms. Birkes asked about the removal of a tree at the library construction site. Mr. Torres
said it was removed due to the addition on the building.
4.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Ms. Schmidt opened the floor for nomination of the vice chair. Mr. David Nelson
volunteered, and the Board approved.
5.

Mr. Steve Brown announced that the first construction meeting will be held November
1ih.

letter to the naming committee over the next couple of months.
