APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the February, 2007 meeting were approved as written.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Steve Brown updated the Library Board on the following:
There was a decrease in circulation in February, and the number of reserved or items
on hold were higher. This is an indication that the Library's collection does not have
enough multiple copies. The number of Library visitors and number of on-line visits also
increased in February. There were 625 new library cards issued last month.
Staff finished combining the four genres of Fiction including mysteries, westerns,
science-fiction and fantasy, together in one alphabetical order. The new labels allow
browsers to easily identify the genre they like to read. There have been some
complaints on the new arrangement.
The Adult Services staff will be hosting a training session on grant resources on March
31 st for area non-profit representatives. Mr. David Nelson asked if the Community
Enrichment Center in North Richland Hills was notified about the training. Mr. Brown
said the CEC was notified.
An email was received from a gentleman who bought a book he believed belonged to
North Richland Hills Library from an on-line book seller. The book was stamped "North
Richland Hills Public Library" and was one of twenty missing books in the BISD textbook
collection. Mr. Brown offered to buy back the book, but the gentleman gave the book to
the Library at no charge. Mr. Brown reported the bookseller to the North Richland Hills
Police Department. An investigation is underway.
Mr. Brown and Mr. Richard Torres met with a Starbucks representative last week
regarding Starbucks' Food Service option which will allow the Library to post indoor
Starbucks signage. The cafe would not be Starbucks owned or franchised, but the
supplier would provide equipment and training. Mr. Brown will update the Board as new
information becomes available.
There will be three furniture packages put out for bid by mid-April that will include steel
library shelving with end panels, contract furnishings, and tables and chairs.
A discussion on fabric and chair design followed.
UPDATE ON LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION
The pouring of concrete for all 122 piers is complete, and crews are excavating in
preparation for the parking lot.
CONSIDER PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO LIBRARY BOARD BYLAWS
MR. NELSON MOVED TO APPROVE THE AMENDMENT TO THE LIBRARY BOARD BYLAWS. MS.
SHILCUTT SECONDED THE MOTION.

LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
Ms. Avis Crisp asked if there are any internet filters on the computers used by patrons
at the Library. Mr. Brown said there are internet filters on all computers in the Children's
Library.
