Call to order Chairperson Kathy Luppy called to order the regular meeting of the Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission at 6:45 p.m. on March 20, 2007 in the Neighborhood Services office located at 7200-C Dick Fisher Dr. South. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 Neighborhood Services 7200-C Dick Fisher Dr. S. Meeting Minutes Roll call The following persons were present: Commission Members Kathy Luppy Micah Beck Holly Bullington Dianna Madar Doris Tipps Dianne Spradling Teresa Hebert Chairperson Vice-Chairperson Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Staff Members Debbie York Joyce Fister The following persons were absent: Jay Garner Environmental Resource Coordinator Secretary Commission Member 2. Approval of minutes from last meeting Committee Member Diane Spradling motioned to approve the minutes from the February 20, 2007 meeting; Committee Member Holly Bullington seconded the motion. The Minutes were approved as written. 3. Clean Campus Award Micah Beck brought up the issue of changing the name of the Clean Campus Award to better reflect that it is not fora "clean" school but for environmental purposes. He suggested the name of Green Campus Award. After a brief discussion, Holly Bullington made a motion to accept that name and Doris Tipps seconded that motion, which was unanimously approved by the Committee. New signs will be ordered. 4. 2007 Environmental Education Grant Applications North Ridge Elementary applied for $100.00 for the "North Ridge Kinder Garden" Program. Project consists of Kindergarten students planting and maintaining a garden. Committee recommends that organic fertilizer be used. As this increases the costs, Grant amount of $150.00 was discussed. Walker Creek Elementary has applied for $994.12 for the "We CAN at Walker Creek" Program which involves purchasing outdoor trash receptacles. The Committee discussed the program, with a consensus that this is not student involved and does not meet the criteria for the Grant funding. Smithfield Elementary has applied for $275.58 for the "Smithfield Recycles!" Program, which involved purchasing and placing bins for recyclable paper in some classrooms. It was discussed that this was a good plan and that the 5~" Grade will earn money from the recycling. Clear plastic bins will be decorated by the students. North Ridge Middle has applied for $689.00 for their "Courtyard Beautification" Program which involves 70 students being involved in cleaning up and planting the courtyard area. Committee discussed who would benefit from this program and was it feasible considering the watering situation during the summer as it is not on a sprinkler system. Comments were made about adding hints on how to use recycled and organic materials to the Information distributed at the beginning of the Program. Holly Bullington suggested that in the future a Committee member visit each school applying for a Grant so that detailed information can be discussed when the vote is taken. Snow Heights Elementary has applied for $425.00 to fund part of their "Snow Heights Elementary Earth Day 2007". Program consists of activities for each grade involving beautification, recycling and plant maintenance. Motion to grant funding of $200.00 to North Ridge Kindergarten made by Micah Beck, seconded by Dianne Spradling. Motion passed. Motion to grant funding of $700.00 to North Ridge Middle School made by Holly Bullington, seconded by Doris Tipps. Motion passed. Motion to grant funding of $500.00 to Snow Heights Elementary made by Dianne Spradling, seconded by Holly Bullington. Motion passed. (extra money added for gloves and bags.) Motion to grant funding of $300.00 to Smithfield Elementary made by Holly Buillington, seconded by Teresa. Motion passed. Total of all Grants approved: $1,700.00. 5. KAB Certification Debbie York advised that there was nothing new on this program Dianne Spradling asked about changing our Keep Our City Clean signs to say LitterNot. Committee agreed this should be done. LitterNot T-shirts and stickers were distributed to all Committee Members by Debbie York. Poll was taken to find out who was going to the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference. Only Kathy Luppy could confirm she was going. Kathy Luppy advised that Adopt-A-Highway is set for March 31, 2007 from 9:OOam -12:OOpm using Tarrant County Sheriff's Labor Detail Program workers. 6. Adjournment Commission Member Holly Bullington motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 p.m.; Commission Member Doris Tipps seconded the motion.
