BA 84-13 Request of Raymond L. Ahern to vary from the Zoning Ordinance #1080 on Lot 6, Block 19, Snow Heights Addition, to allow a carport to be built beyond the front building line. This property is located at 6720 Shauna Drive. Mrs. Raymond Ahern of 6720 Shauna Drive came forward. She said that they would like to build a carport on the front of their home to expand their living area by converting the garage into a den. She said it would be less expensive to build a carport than to add a room, which would cost approximately $20,000.00 to $30,000.00. . ~ Page 2 Z B A Minutes August 16, 1984 . Chairman Roseberry said he thought she could enclose the garage without putting in a carport. Mrs. Ahern said they need a carport to protect their automobiles from hail and storms. Chairman Roseberry asked Mrs. Ahern if she had any pictures or drawings of the type of carport she was wanting. Mrs. Ahern said she did and she brought them forward. Mr. Schubert asked how long she had lived at 6720 Shauna Drive. Mrs. Ahern said they had lived there approximately six years. Mr. Schubert asked Mrs. Ahern how many cars she and her husband owned. . Mrs. Ahern said they had two automobiles. Chairman Roseberry asked Mrs. Ahern if she understood that this carport would have to be attached to the house. Mrs. Ahern said she did. Mr. Cypert asked if she knew what the depth of the carport would be. Mrs. Ahern said she thought it would be 20 feet. She said they used to park their cars in the driveway and in front of their house, until they were damaged by kids throwing bottles at them. Mr. Schubert said he noticed the building line from the street was approximately 26 feet, therefore if Mrs. Ahern put up a carport of 20 feet that would only leave 6 feet from the street. . . . . ~ Page 3 Z B A Meeting August 16, 1984 Chairman Roseberry said the building line is usually 25 feet plus 9 1/2 feet right of way from the back of the curb and it looks like the house sets behind the building line. He said he would like the Board to consider this request very seriously. Chairman Roseberry said the ordinance does not state "no carports"; it deals with structures. He said he would prefer someone with a boat to have a carport to park it under. .
