HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2005-02-01 Minutes CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS Keep NRH Beautiful Commission February 1, 2005 Present: Kathy Luppy Holly Bullington Sarah Enfinger Micah Beck Bill Stewart Chairperson Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Debbie York Carey Parrack Environmental Resource Coordinator Secretary Absent: John Paraskevas Monique Hester Commission Member Vice-Chairperson Item Discussion Action Taken Follow Up Call to Order Meeting called to order at 6:55 p.m. Approval of Review Minutes from the Motion to approve Minutes Minutes November 16, 2004, meeting of the November 16, 2004, meeting Motion: Holly Bullington Second: Sarah Enfinger Motion Passed Discuss Commission members Environmental reviewed the application for Education the Environmental Education School Grants School Grant Award and recommended the following: · Mail letter and application to school principals by February 18, 2005 · Include cover letter to principal asking them to pass information on to the Environmental Chair · Submission deadline- March 14, 2005 · Grade applications at the March 15, 2005, meeting · Project completing date- September 16, 2005 · Add the following verbiage to the grant application, section titled Project Information: A Program Evaluation must be submitted Item Discussion Action Taken Follow Up Discuss NRH Parks department asked Motion to contribute Liberty Park Participation in if KNRHB would like to $2,000.00 to the Liberty dedication will Liberty Park contribute $2,000.00 to the Park Veterans Monument be May 21, project Liberty Park Veterans and plant and maintain 2005 Monument. If the board perennial bed Liberty Park chooses to make this contribution, their name will Motion: Holly Bullington be on a plaque, along with other contributors and Second: Bill Stewart KNRHB will be given a section of the park for Motion Passed planting perennials. KNRHB will be responsible for the cost and installation of the plants as well as maintaining the bed. Discuss Tree Trees for Tots Program: Programs · The Parks Department is running out of irrigated park land and would like to discontinue the Trees for Tots program · Only three applications have been submitted for this year's dedication ceremony Remembrance Tree Program: · Person requesting ded ication must pay for tree and marker · Standardize dedication markers · Parks will purchase trees; trees will be at least 2-3 inches in diameter · The City will be responsible for replacing the tree for the first two years only · Fee will increase from $150 to $200, due to cost of purchasing larger trees Due to lack of interest in the Trees for Tots program and because irrigated park land is in short supply, KNRHB members suggested using monies encumbered for the Trees for Tots program be Item Discussion Action Taken Follow Up used to help subsidize the Motion made to subsidize Remembrance Tree program. the Remembrance Tree Applicants must pay for the program, due to lack of marker and $125.00 for the interest in the Trees for tree; KNRHB will pay the Tots program and the remaining $75.00. increased cost of trees Motion: Micah Beck Second: Holly Bullington Motion Passed Discuss Debbie York provided Seminars/Pond members with information on -Garden Tour the SmartScape Gardening Programs Series event being held at NRH Public Library February 24th, March 3rd and March 10th. Seminars are free; no cost to attend and no cost to KNRHB. A date for the Pond/Garden Tour will be selected at a later date. Discuss The Governor's Community Include: Governor's Achievement Award Pond/Garden Community application is due May 10, Tour, Achievement 2005. Since KNRHB was Environmental Award only a half a point away from Education winning their category last School Grants year, they will modify last and Liberty Park year's application. Board members were each assigned a section of the GCAA application; they were assigned as follows: Community Leadership & Coordination-Bill Stewart Education-Kathy Luppy Public Awareness- Monique Hester Litter Prevention & Cleanup-Sarah Enfinger Illegal Dumping and Enforcement-John Paraskevas Item Discussion Act:li'n I can.tm Follow Up Beautification and Property Improvement-Holly Bullington Solid Waste Management- Micah Beck Summation--AII Citizen Debbie York shared the Input/Staff following: Report · Kathy Luppy's son sent a letter to KNRHB members thanking them for the care package they sent to him in Afghanistan......"he shared with his buddies" · The Mayor, City Council and City Staff sent a letter to KNRHB commission members thanking them for "your contribution to making A Night of Holiday Magic a great success". · Debbie received an Adopt- A-Spot volunteer application from a company called Road Loans. Road Loans would like to adopt the corner by the Wal-Mart.... ..the Wal- Mart located at 820 and Rufe Snow. · Pet Waste stations have been purchased with money encumbered at the end of this last fiscal year. The Pet Waste Stations were placed at several of the neighborhood parks located in NRH. · KAB training for KNRHB members is scheduled for February 12, 2005 @ 9:00 a.m. at Neighborhood Services building Adjournment Meeting Adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Approved:
