Debbie York relayed that 11 people signed up for the May 19, Container Gardening seminar. Gommission members decided since the response was so small, that plans to hire a police officer should be canceled. Patsy Tucker reported on this year's Arbor Day Celebration, which was a tree dedication ceremony at Smithfield Middle School and a presentation by commission member, Jane Dunkelberg. The event was attended by Mayor Charles Scoma, Councilman Oscar Trevinio, and principals from Birdville Hiqh school and Action Taken Meeting called to order at 7:20p.m. Motion was made: To approve the Minutes from the March 20,2001 meeting. Worth Star- Telegram regarding "Cheers and Jeers", Item BC-14 Discuss Keep Texas Beautiful Conference Staff Report 2001/2002 Budget Request presentation Citizen Input Adjourn Discussion Commission members discussed this year's Keep Texas Beautiful conference and determined all Beautification Commission members will be able to attend, since the conference is being held in Ft. Worth, Commission members were advised that the City would not pay for overnight lodging since the conference is local. Commission members and staff reviewed the proposed 2001/2002 budget. Debbie York informed members that nothing would be final until the Budget Retreat, which is in August. Item BC-07 Finalize Plans for Spring Seminars BC-08 Arbor Day Celebration Plans Discussion Commission members reviewed/edited the brochure advertising the two upcoming seminars for: Container Gardening Saturday, May 21, 1 :00- 3:00p.m. at Green Mama's, 5324 Davis Blvd. This seminar will be limited to 30 participants. Each participant will bring his/her own 3-5 gallon container. (Green Mama's request's that participants of the Container Gardening seminar park across the street in the church parking lot, so their regular customers will have a place to park). Feng Shui Saturday, May 26, 1 :00- 2:00p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 8525 Airport Freeway, NRH. Action Taken Follow Up Jane Dunkelberg will take seminar brochures to Barnes and Noble and the NRH Library. Commission members had a brief discussion regarding Yard-of-the-Month judging. Commission members Jane Dunkelberg and Jeanne Lueck have asked that someone take over the Yard- of-the-Month judging for their area, area one, due to conflicting schedules. Commission members will tour areas of NRH Tuesday, April 17, at 5:30p.m. in order to choose winners for the Business Landscape Awards, which will be presented at the May 19, 2001, Business Appreciation Luncheon. Park's Supervisor, Rob Elder provided commission members and staff, with copies of the Trophy Tree ordinance and a Trophy Tree Proclamation. Mr. Elder went on to explain the program's intent, and then described the proper procedure for measuring trees. Debbie York will reserve the N.E.T,S. bus for the Landscape Award tour. Item Discussion Action Taken reported that there is $1000.00 left in the Trophy Tree account, which can be used to buy medallions. Commission members then reviewed the approved Tree Species List and decided to try to identify the next four trees on the list. Mr. Elder then offered to assist commission members in identifying and measuring the trees. Pam Burney reported that she spoke with Jim Browne, the Director of Parks & Recreation, regarding section "H" of the Trophy Tree ordinance. According to Mr, Browne, an amendment was made to section "H" of the ordinance but he was unsure as to whether or not it had ever been filed with the City Secretary's office. Staff Report Debbie York invited Beautification Commission members to participate in the Household Hazardous Waste collection on March 24, and the Great American Cleanup and picnic on April 7.
