S. ..... ~ JULY 20, 1999 ATTENDANCE Present: Patsy Tucker Jane Dunkelberg Theresa Hampton Glenn Nerwin Deloris Pultz Chairperson Commission Member Commission Member Alternate Commission Member STAFF Debbie York Environmental Resource Coordinator Absent: Emily Ward Jeanne Lueck Commission Member Vice-Chairperson 1. CALL TO ORDER Patsy Tucker called the meeting to order at 7:20 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Motion by Jane Dunkleberg to approve the minutes with the correction of adding Theresa Hampton to the absent list. Second by Glen Nerwin. Motion approved. 3 REVIEW PLANS DISCUSSED AT SPECIAL ADOPT -A-SPOT MEETING Patsy Tucker presented the members with the following suggestions discussed at the special meeting: . Seek funding for a budget for planting supplies needed to finance their plans for adopting an area along Bedford/Euless Road. Funding will be sought from businesses and support of homeowners in the neighborhood will be requested. . Adopt the NRH Environmental Services Compost Demonstration Garden as a project. Options would be to provide: Maintenance Promote environmental education and beautification via seminars, Citi Cable, garden tours, etc. 4. DISCUSS CLEAN CAMPUS PROGRAM Patsy Tucker reported that Jeanne Lueck would like for the commission to review the criteria of the Clean Campus Program to try to enhance the program and encourage participation by more schools. Motion by Delores Pultz, second by Jane Dunkleberg to change the criteria. Motion passed. Revamping of the Clean Campus Program will be added to the August 3, 1999 workshop agenda. . - 5. STATUS OF GUM BALL MACHINE Patsy Tucker reported that the gum ball machine has been moved aside because of disrepair. She said that in speaking with Sharon Davis at the Recreation Center, Ms. Davis indicated that the Rec Center would be willing to house the machine but suggested that some of the proceeds go to an after school program. Motion by Delores Pultz, Second by Jane Dunkleberg to have the gumball machine repaired or replaced and filled. Motion carried. Delores Pultz said that when the machine was received from Ruthie Jackson it was her understanding that the proceeds were to be used for environmental education of youth. Glen Nerwin suggested that another option would be to use the bubble gum machine proceeds for beautification projects in the schools. Due to the lack of participation in the schools for Flowership Fund monies a motion was made by Theresa Hampton to discontinue the Flowership Fund Program. Motion approved. 6. KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL CONVENTION REPORTS Patsy Tucker thanked the group for letting her be a delegate to the convention and reported on the "Broken Windows" seminar that she attended. Debbie York shared a report on the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". 7. STAFF REPORTS Debbie York reported that a NRH Compost Garden workday is scheduled for Saturday, August tho She also read a letter from a Yard -of-the-Month winner expressing the winners appreciation for the program. 8. DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS Patsy Tucker reported that she had purchased a camera for the pictures of the Yard -of- the-Month winners. 8. ADJOURNMENT Jane Dunkleberg motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:35, second by Theresa Hampton. / w'
