CALL TO ORDER Patsy Tucker called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Motion by Patsy Tucker, second by Jane Dunkleberg to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried 5-0. 3. YARD OF THE MONTH PROGRAM Patsy Tucker presented the names of five new judges for the Yard of the Month Program and made a motion to accept these nominees, second by Jeanne Lueck. Motion carried 5-0. After a discussion on the design for the new Yard-of-the-Month signs Delores Pultz made a motion to purchase 9 new signs from Signs Now at a cost of approximately $45.50 per sign. This amount includes an 18x24" sign and a medal frame. Motion carried 5-0. A briefing for all of the judges will be held at the regular workshop on April 6th at 7:15 p.m. 4. ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION AND TREES FOR TOTS It was recommended that the Arbor Day program at the middle schools be canceled this year and focus more on next years Arbor Day 2000. Motion by Jane Dunkleberg to .observe Arbor Day on April 1 oth at 2:00 p.m. with a dedication of the trees planted in the Trees for Tots program, second by Theresa Hampton, motion carried 5-0. The Committee also requested they be informed on a monthly or quarterly basis on how many, when, and where trees will be planted for the Trees-For- Tots and Remembrance Tree programs. 5. CLEAN CAMPUS PROGRAM Jeanne Lueck reported that she had talked with the principals or vice principals at all participating schools and anticipates good participation next school year. A recommendation was made to publish the winners of the Clean Campus and Flowership Awards programs in the BISD newsletter. 6. GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP The area at Rufe Snow Drive and Hightower was selected as the area to "clean up" for the Great American Cleanup held April 24th at 8:45 a.m. 7. STAFF REPORTS Pam Burney spoke with Bill Thorton about the Adopt-A-Spot Program and it's requirements. Mr. Thorton said citizens could plant trees, shrubs and perennials with a pre-approved plan. Environmental Services agreed to re-do the Adopt-A-Spot pamphlet with guidelines and recommendations on plants, flowers and trees for planting. 8. DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS Patsy Tucker requested that steps be taken to remove Patty Sheppard as a Beautification Commission member due to the fact that she has missed several meetings as well as workshops and has not contacted anyone. The next workshop will be Tuesday, April 4, 1999 at 7:15 p.m. at the Environmental Services building. 9. ADJOURNMENT Ms. Tucker adjourned the meeting at 9:0:~Q.Í ¿é' j.ßJ.
