CALL TO ORDER
Ms. Tucker called the meeting to order on January 19, 1999 at 2:00 p.m.
Guests Bob Cosman, J. B. Sandlin and Derek Murway were recognized by Ms. Tucker.
Ms. Tucker thanked the Parks and Recreation Staff for their support over the years.
2.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Ms. Lueck made a motion, seconded by Ms. Ward, to approve the minutes of the
December 15, 1998 Beautification meeting. Motion carried 6-0.
3.
RECOMMENDATION TO LAND USE AD HOC COMMITTEE
Mr. Thornton presented a memo summarizing the revisions recommended to the Land
Use Ad Hoc Committee. After comments and input has been received from the various
boards and commissions, the City Managers office will use this information to complete
the draft for the Landuse Policies and Standards. As there were no objections from the
members, the memo was signed by Ms. Tucker.
4.
CHRISTMAS DECORATING AWARD PROGRAM
Ms. Tucker presented the outline of suggestions on the Christmas Decorating Award
Program developed in the January 5, 1999 workshop. The item will be taken to the next
workshop for further refinement of details. Ms. Pultz made a motion, seconded by Ms.
Dunkleberg, to further develop and implement a Christmas Decorating Award Program.
Motion carried 6 - O.

ENHANCEMENT OF STAFF SUPPORT FOR BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Staff reported that the Parks and Recreation will still be involved in the Trophy Tree, Trees
for Tots and Christmas Tree Lighting Programs and that Environmental Services will be
involved in all of the other programs.
6.
STAFF REPORTS
Parks and Recreation Staff reported that the Christmas banners are well worn and need
to be replaced.
Free Christmas tree mulch will be delivered by Trinity Waste Systems and available to
citizens next week.
Mr. Thornton recommended that the proposed city entryway signage be presented to the
City Council by a Beautification member. He also recommended that the signage be
installed in the next budget cycle.
7.
DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS/CITIZEN INPUT
Mr. Nerwin reported that he had given a presentation on the use of native plants to the
parks staff. He thanked the parks staff for helping him move native plants to the Green
Valley Soccer Complex.
The next workshop meeting will be February 2, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Environmental
Services.

ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Tucker adjourned the meeting at 3:30 p.m.
