MINUTES OF THE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS,
HELD IN THE PRE-COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL,

CALL TO ORDER
Ms. Scoma called the meeting to order February 16, 1993 at 7:00 P.M.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
APPROVED
Ms. Pultz moved, seconded by Mrs. Sommermeyer, to approve the minutes,
as amended, of the January 19, 1993, Beautification Commission
meeting.
Motion carried 5-0.
3.
TEXAS 2000 AWARD
APPROVED
Mr. Thornton updated the Commission on the Texas 2000 Awards.
Ms. Scoma moved, seconded by Ms. Pultz to submit the awards
applications for the Water Quality Monitoring Program, Don't Bag It
Program, and the Recycling Program.
Motion carried 5-0
4.
ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION
APPROVED
Ms. Pultz moved, seconded by Mrs. Sommermeyer to hold an Arbor Day
Celebration on March 27, 1993 at 8:30 a.m. The celebration will
include setting a stone and plaque dedicating the Afghan Pine
Christmas Tree to Councilwoman Spurlock, also the planting of one
tree.
Motion carried 5-0.

YOUTH EDUCATION REPORT
Mrs. Sommermeyer updated the Commission on the "Texas Waste A Hidden
Resource", a solid waste management education program. (Attachment
#1)
6.
KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL BOARD MEETING
Mrs. Sommermeyer moved, seconded by Ms. Tucker, the Commission will
sponsor the following activities, Great Texas Trash Off, Bag-A-Thon,
Bag-A-Thon Olympics, with each Commission member vOlunteering when and
where they are able to.
Motion carried 6-0.
The Don't Bag It Seminar is scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 1993,
7:30 p.m. at the North Richland Hills Recreation Center. (Attachment
#2)

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS REPORT
PERMANENT NAME TAGS
AWARDS BANQUET FOOD EXPENSE
Ms. Pultz updated the Commission on the Christmas decorations for the
City. This topic will be discussed at a workshop.
Ms. Pultz updated the Commission on the status of the name tags. Mrs.
Hurley at Trophies of Distinction informed her that they should be
ready by February 19, 1993.
Also, Ms. Pultz informed the Commission of the Awards banquet food
expenses: Coca Cola Bottling donated soft drinks, Keebler donated
cookies, Dominos Pizza sold 20 pizzas to us for $100. 85 people
attended, with a total cost of $160.70. (Attachment #3)

STAFF REPORTS
Mr. Thornton updated the Commission on the following items: Highway
820 Improvements, Trophy Tree Ordinance, Beautification Commission
Meeting Guidelines, Keep Texas Beautiful Awards Application Memo and
the Donation of trees from Yaupon John's Tree Company.
9.
DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS
Ms. Ward moved, seconded by Ms. Pultz, that the Commission deliver
flyers to the Businesses on Highway 26 and Davis Blvd. (Attachment
#4)
Motion carried 6-0
Mrs. Sommermeyer moved, seconded by Ms. Ward that the Commission send
the corrected letter concerning the Adopt-A-Highway program to the
following businesses: First Interstate Bank, Bates Container, N.E.
Postal Employees Union, Agon Life Investors, and Tecnol Inc.

Ms. Dunkelberg moved, seconded by Ms. Tucker that the Commission
support the Bag-A-Thon activities and donate up to $200.00.
Motion carried 6-0
Ms. Pultz moved, seconded by Ms. Ward that the Commission approve to
spend up to $25.00 on Don't Bag It Brochures for distribution in the
City.
Motion carried 6-0
A workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 1993.
