Tim Hightshoe, Parks & Recreation Dept. CALLED TO ORDER 7:04 PM by Ms. Scoma APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Ms. Pultz made a motion to accept the minutes as amended. Mrs. Sommermeyer seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. ITEM 3: CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING UPDATE Ms. Ward updated the Commission on the Christmas Tree Recycling Program. sixteen to eighteen Boy Scouts will be helping unload Christmas trees from the vehicles. Ms. Ward went over volunteer times for the Commission. Laidlaw will supply a large chipper and three individuals to handle all the chipping. The Commission was informed about Laidlaws participation and should be specially noted on all New Releases and Public Service Announcements. The first order of 66 Afghan pine Seedlings were received. The Commission requested an additional order of 66 more seedlings to be delivered before the end of the year. ITEM 4: DISCUSSION ON PERMANENT NAME TAGS Ms. Pultz has checked with several different sources about permanent name tags for the Commission. Below is a list of prices from Office Depot: 1 X 3" $2.99 1 1/2 X 3" $3.99 1 1/2 X 4" $3.99 * These prices are without logo and tree, to include logo and tree add $1.00 to each name tag. Set-up fee $30.00 Color recommendations: white background/dark blue lettering. Ms. Pultz with continue to check on prices and sizes and will present more information at the January meeting. _... -, -' ._-"_.__....."'~--'~-.._'---~_.~-~,..^_.__.~_.~-,_,_.~,..__m ITEM 5: KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL UPDATE Ms. Dunkelberg updated the Commission on the Keep Texas Beautiful program. Mrs. Sommermeyer made a motion to send the Adopt-A-Highway application (Attachment 1) and letter (Attachment 2) to the list of civic groups attached (Attachment 3). Ms. Ward seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Ms. Pultz made a motion to send the attached letter (Attachment 4) and applications (Attachment 5 & 6) concerning the Ruth Jackson Youth Leadership Award and the Sadie Ray Graff Award to the attached list of teachers (Attachment 7) in the North Richland Hills area. Ms. Tucker seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Ms. Dunkelberg also updated the Commission on the Water Monitoring System (Attachment 8). ITEM 6: ADOPT-A-SPOT UPDATE Ms. with was absent, her report will be presented at the January meeting. ITEM 7: UPDATE ON CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY Ms. Scoma thanked the Commission for a great job at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Only one complaint, Santa was congested with lots of children around him and some children could not get close enough to see him. The Commission discussed getting a plaque for the Christmas tree with the dedication to Councilwoman Linda Spurlock printed on it. Ms. Scoma will check on designs and prices. ITEM 8: HOLIDAY DECORATIONS FOR THE CITY UPDATE The City Council expressed a desire to have Holiday decorations around the City, (banners, or some kind of decorations down Rufe Snow Dr.). The Commission decided to discuss this topic at the January 5th workshop. Prices and designs will be organized and be presented to the City Council at a later date. The Camp Fire Girls were planning a Cleanup Day on February 27, 1993. They were looking for additional help. Ms. Ward will talk to a few people and give the Camp Fire Girls some names to see if they can help with the cleanup. Ms. Scoma also suggested they talk with Ms. Nancy Kirkland with the Teen Court Division of Municipal Court. The Community Services Department expenditures for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was approximately $800. 2. The Small Business Administration Grant will be used on Industrial Boulevard. 3. Tim Hightshoe and Rob Elder presented at the Texas Recreation and Park Society Region 5 & 6 Conference on December 4, 1992 in Richardson, Texas. Their presentation topic was "Kids N Tree's".
