APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Mr. Baxter made a motion to approve the
minutes of the April, 1992 meeting.
Ms. with seconded the motion. The vote
was unanimous in favor of the motion.
ITEM 3: UPDATE ON TROPHY TREE PROGRAM
Mr. Baxter distributed a rough draft for the proposed Trophy Tree
Ordinance. Mr. Baxter explained the ordinance's purpose, the process
of the program, and that the Parks and Recreation Department would
administer the ordinance and be directed by the Beautification
commission. The program would be a voluntary program for the property
owner.
Mr. Baxter made a motion to forward the proposed ordinance to Legal
for input, approval of the contract for property owners, and to be
administered by Staff. Ms. Tucker seconded the motion. Vote was
unanimous in favor of the motion.
ITEM 4:
"KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL" UPDATE
Ms. Dunkelberg updated the Commission on the progress of the "Keep
Texas Beautiful" applications and requested the Commission members
turn in their volunteer hours. The convention will be held in San
Antonio on June 7-10, 1992. Ms. Tucker, Ms. Dunkelberg,
Ms. Sommermeyer and Ms. Mapston are scheduled to attend the
conference.
A brief summary was given on the "Bag-a-Thon" held on April 4 at
Fossil Creek Park. The "Bag-a-Thon" was a success collecting 97 bags
of trash and commended the volunteers and staff for their assistance.
Approximately 19,000 articles of clothing were donated for the Clothes
Connection.
ITEM 5: EARTHFEST
Ms. Scoma requested the members assistance on manning the booth at
EarthFest '92 on May 2, 1992 at Northfield Park. A schedule was
determined. Discussion was held on the articles to be displayed.

ITEM 6:
DISCUSSION OF CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY PROGRAM
Ms. Mapston was not present for this report. Item was tabled for May
19, 1992 meeting.
ITEM 7: BUDGET
Discussion was held on the budget for FY 92-93 now in progress.
ITEM 8: UPDATE ON YARD OF THE MONTH
Ms. Scoma stated that there were four (4) new jUdges for the Yard and
Landscape of the Month Committee. Awards will be presented at the end
of May at the Council meeting. (It was discussed that May 25 is
Memorial and a City holiday. Staff is to check on the scheduled
meetings for Council and report to Ms. Scoma.)
ITEM 9: STAFF REPORT
Mr. Hightshoe stated the trees have been ordered for the North Ridge
Elementary Tree Farm for the America the Beautiful Grant. A seminar
for teachers named "Project Learning Tree" (PLT). Rob Elder spoke to
900 students about the tree farm. Also, Mr. Elder has received from
Mr. Taylor's neighborhood for "RELEAF".
The Department has received monetary donations from Liberty Bank
($2,000) and Burlington Northern ($1,000) for "EarthFest".
ITEM 10: DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS NOT ON AGENDA
Ms. Scoma noted that a girl scout troop has requested an location for
"Adopt-a-spot".
Discussion was held on the May meetings and determined that the
Workshop would be cancelled, the next regular business meeting will be
held on May 19, 1992 at 7:00 PM.
Mr. Wilson made a recommendation to use citicable 36 to advertise for
prom dresses for the Clothes Connection.

8:24 P.M.. Ms. Tucker seconded the
motion. Vote was unanimous in favor of
the motion.
