BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION

CALLED TO ORDER Ms. Davis at 7:10 P.M.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Ms. Robinson made a motion to approve
the minutes as submitted.
Ms. Dunkelberg seconded the motion.
ITEM 4: Tree Chipping
Ms. Davis read a report by Jerry Taylor regarding the project.
On December 19, 1990, 161 individuals brought trees; on January
5, 1991, 162 trees were brought. Approximately 2,000 trees were
brought in from commercial lots. Next year, we will work with
the commercial lots regarding fees. A letter of thanks will be
mailed to the volunteers helping with the project. The
Commission expressed special thanks for a job well done by Jerry
Taylor.
Ms. Dunkelberg reported that two citizens called Neil Sperry's
program, telling him of the tree recycling project and asking
advised on planting the afghan pine seedlings. Approximately 200
seedlings were left. They will be planted at the tree farm.
Mr. Taylor suggested that we make plans for next year's project
in October.
ITEM 5: Green Thumb Seminar
Ms. Davis presented a flyer (attached) to be distributed. Greg
Oldenberg will tape the seminar for use on citicable 36. Plans
were made for refreshments to be served.
ITEM 6: "Don't Bag It"
Ms. Robinson reported on a meeting sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce. Brochures were shown and discussion was held.
Ms. Davis will check on getting publicity on the water bill. Ms.
Dunkelberg reported that a program will be shown on Channel 11 on
January 19, 1991, on "Don't Bag It". The Chamber of Commerce
program will be on February 28, 1991, at the North Richland Hills
Recreation Center. A motion was made by Jane Dunkelberg and
seconded by Ms. Scoma that the Beautification Commission hold a
seminar on "Dont' Bag It" on March 5, 1991. Ms. Dunkelberg will
be our speaker. Ms. Sralla made a motion that we commit for
2,000 "Don't Bag It" brochures. Mr. Moore seconded the motion.
ITEM 7: Discussion of Other Items Not on Agenda
Ms. Davis reported on the "Remembrance Tree" program. permission
has been requested from the City Council to put a plaque in the
Council Chambers.
Ms. Robinson reported that the Chamber of Commerce is meeting on
January 14, 1991 on the "Bag-a-thon" Program. April 6, 1991 is
the media kick off.
Ms. Dunkelberg reported on the landscaping on Watauga Road. Due
to expense of the sprinkler system, some color plants will be
eliminated.
Ms. Dunkelberg will study and make recommendation on hydro-
mulching buffalo grass at the Watauga Road Fire station. This
could be used as an experimental demonstration site.
