MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Janice Davis Alice Scoma Kathy Robinson Brenda Sralla Rusty Moore MEMBERS NOT IN ATTENDANCE: Jane Dunkelberg Marilyn with ALSO IN ATTENDANCE Jerry Taylor Mike Hebert MEETING CALLED TO ORDER Ms. Davis called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Ms. Robinson made a motion to approve the minutes as printed. Ms. Sralla seconded the motion. ITEM 4: DISCUSSION OF CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING The Christmas Tree Lighting Report was given by Alice Scoma. The Tree Lighting is set for December 1 at 6:00 P.M. on the porch of the Library. The Rebellaire Choir and Jazz Band from Richland High School will perform and Brenda Sralla will sing a solo. Santa (Steve Papagno, a North Richland Hills Fireman) will arrive on a fire truck. Janice Davis reported on a printed sheet publicizing the lighting ceremony. It ~ill be stuffed in the November water bill. Motion was made by Kathy Robinson and seconded by Brenda Sralla to spend up to $125.00 on the printing and stuffing. Extra flyers will be placed at day care centers. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Alice Scoma made a motion to spend approximately $30.00 for candy to be thrown by Santa from the fire truck. Brenda Sralla seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Janice Davis discussed buying lighted angels for decorations on the city Hall lawn. Motion was made by Alice Scoma and seconded by Brenda Sralla to spend approximately $300.00 on the decorations. Motion carried by vote of 4 to 1. Dennis Horvath stated that the City will supply $300 plus. ITEM 5: DISCUSSION OF TREE CHIPPING Jerry Taylor will take charge of the Christmas Tree Chipping Program. An order for 500 seedlings has been placed (at $.60 each will cost $300.00) to give to people bringing their Christmas Trees to chipping. The location for drop off will be announced at a later date. Dates for collection will be December 29, 1990 and January 5, 1991 from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.. ITEM 6: DISCUSSION OF ADOPT-A-SPOT Brenda Sralla reported on the progress of the Adopt-a-spot Program. She is working on a brochure for this program. ITEM 7: DISCUSSION OF THE REMEMBRANCE TREE PROJECT Janice Davis showed us a brochure on the "Remembrance Tree" created by Jim Robinson. A motion was made by Brenda Sralla that we adopt the brochure to be printed to promote the "Remembrance Tree" Program and spend approximately $100.00 for the printing. The motion was seconded by Rusty Moore. It was decided to print 500 brochures. Two hundred- fifty will be printed for the hospital maternity wards (125 in pink and 125 in blue). An remaining 250 will be printed in green and ivory (125 in each color). ITEM 8: DISCUSSION OF GOAL SETTING Kathy Robinson discussed a paper from "Keep Texas Beautiful" ,)n recycling and other programs. We will try to get an article in the City Quarterly Newsletter educating the citizens on where to dispose of waste not collected by Laidlaw. Jerry Taylor brought up the problem of disposing paint. Kathy said there was a disposal location in Hurst. - Other Goals: - Work on points for Keep Texas Beautiful with City Departments - Volunteer Recognition Program - Comprehensive plan for beautifying city islands ITEM 9: DISCUSSION OF "PLANTS FOR THE TRANSPLANTED" AND OTHERS Janice Davis reported that Jane Dunkelberg had arranged a seminar on January 15, 1991 at the Recreation Center. Jlffi Browne stated that the Parks and Recreation Departmellt will co-sponsor this with the Beautification Commission. Kathy Robinson made the suggestion that Citicable 36 film the seminar to be show on television. Discussion was held on a triangular logo to be used for our future seminars. Alice Scoma reminded everyone to put their Yard of the Month signs in the closet at the Recreation Center. Janice Davis read a letter from Jane Dunkelberg on the progress of Watauga Road. A copy of her report is attached. Mike Hebert asked about writing a letter concerning recycling details and Jerry Taylor suggested that the letter be sent to the City Manager, City Council and Beautification Commission.
