MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Kathy Robinson Alice Scoma Janice Davis Brenda Sralla Kenneth Franklin MEMBERS NOT IN ATTENDANCE: Jane Dunkelberg ALSO IN ATTENDANCE Dick Penner Members of the NRH Senior Citizens Ctr. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER Ms. Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Ms. Sralla made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 3, 1990 meeting as written. Mr. Franklin seconded the motion. ITEM 4: Discussion of Yard of the Month Ms. Scoma reported that signs will be at the Recreation Center by the next meeting. She asked that yards be picked by the first of June. ITEM 5: Discussion of Richfield Project - Sharing Costs Ms. Robinson presented the budget for the park project. The Commissioner's portions is $640.57. Mr. Franklin suggested that an inventory check-off be given to the Commission on future projects, with a Commission member signing it before the budget is charged. A motion was made by Ms. Davis and seconded by Ms. Scoma to approve $640.57 as the Commissioner's portion of the Richfield Park project. Ms. Robinson will check the budget debit of $750.00 Item 7 was moved to this position. ITEM 7: Discussion of Recycling Dick Penner gave a report of recycling at the Senior Citizens Center. The Center has had such an overwhelming response that they are having problems with storage. They are collecting glass (separated by color), plastic bottles, aluminum, scrap metal, newspapers (take these to the animal shelter). Many people have called with an interest in recycling. He will keep a list of people and phone numbers to gather support for recycling. He brought out the need to teach citizens to compost. He encouraged city-wide collection in separated containers at the parks. Mr. Penner volunteered to discuss with Laidlaw their plans for recycling. Ms. Robinson will meet with the city staff on May 14 to discuss recycling. She asked the Commission to submit questions to her. ITEM 6: Critique of "Trash-Off" Day Ms. Davis reported that the trash pickup was successful in several ways. It was educational and cleaned the city some, and it was fun for all involved. She felt it should be continued next year, but plans need to be started by October 1 to coordinate Scout groups, etc. Ms. Sralla suggested better organization for sign-up and passing out bags. ITEM 8: Discussion of "Keep Texas Beautiful" Application The application was mailed Friday, April 27, 1990. Mr. Horvath expressed an interest in the convention and plans to attend in June. Ms. Robinson also plans to attend. Ms. Davis made a motion that the Commission make funding available for Mr. Horvath, if asked by the City, and for up to two (2) Commission members. Ms. Sralla seconded the motion. ITEM 9: Discussion of Other Items Not on Agenda Twenty-one people were present at the Arbor Day Celebration. Mr. Franklin gave the address. Several City officials and Commission members attended. MS. Scoma suggested that the Commission discuss the 1991 budget at the next meeting. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 9:20 P.M..
