Pre-Council Chambers, City Hall, 7301 Northeast Loop 820 MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Kathy Robinson Alice Scoma Janice Davis Pat Fisher Juanita Kemp ALSO IN ATTENDANCE Jim Browne, Director of Parks and Recreation MEETING CALLED TO ORDER Ms. Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Motion made by Ms. Kemp and seconded by Ms. Scoma to approve the minutes of the last meeting. ITEM 4: Ms. Davis introduced plans for the Tree and Landscape Ordinance. She will meet with the City Attorney on June 23. Each member should bring notes of desired items for the ordinance to the workshop session on June 20. ITEM 5: Ms. Scoma discussed the Yard of the Month Awards. Certificates will be preseIlted at a City Council Meeting as soon as the certificates are received from the printer. Mr. Jabri reported that he has gotten gift certificates from Tropical Greenery. Each member should move their signs and give awards by the first week of July. ITEM 6: Ms. Robinson introduced a letter to be sent to volunteers. The Commission agreed to send the letters out. ITEM 7: Ms. Scoma presented a "Tree City, U.S.A." booklet and standards that are required to apply for that award. Mr. Browne said that he has requested an application packet for that program. The Commission agreed to gather all information possible and apply for the award. Mr. Browne will investigate further. Mr. Jabri brought up money raising ideas. Ms. Davis will check with the City Attorney on legal implications of a "beautification" tax. ITEM 8: Ms. Robinson requested addition of budget items to by-laws. She said that the Commission's budget will be set up as a separate department in the City and reports made in that way. ITEM 9: Ms. Robinson mentioned the Community Garden Club in Richland Hills. The Commission has been invited to attend. They chose to wait until an "Adopt-A-Spot" program has been started, and ask them to participate. Ms. Robinson said that she will be attending the "Keep Texas Beautiful" Conference in Houston, June 28-30. She has requested funds from the City for her expenses. Ms. Scoma asked for volunteers to clean out planters at the Library. She will work out plans. Ms. Robinson will check with Mr. Horvath to see if this Commission has authority to dispose of. or use. the planters. Mr. Browne presented a project of landscaping the island at Glenview Drive and Rufe Snow. He suggested using a workshop session to make all decisions Ms. Davis suggested asking our volunteer horticulturist and discussing this on June 20 at the Workshop. Mr. Browne introduced a special program to receive new Liberty Elm Trees. The City would pay $300 per year for three years and receive 100 trees per year. He has applied for more information. ITEM 11: ADJOlffiNMENT Motion made by Ms. Davis. seconded by Ms. Fisher to adjourn. Meeting was adjourned at 9:05 P.M..
