PARR3 AND RECREATION BOARD MINUTES
MONDAY, JULY 7~ 1992

CALLED TO ORDER . Mr. Tipps, Chairman at 6:33 PM.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTE3: Mr. Davis made a motion to accept the
minutes as submitted of the June 1, 1992
meeting. Ms. Battles seconded the motion.
Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.

ITEM 3: YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATION REPORTS
No one was present from the youth sports associations. Staff gave the
following report:
RYA will be hosting tournaments during the week of July 7, 1992.
NRGSL has ended their season and will continue on to tournaments
throughout the state and nation. All youth sport associations have
been active in the 1/2 sales tax effort.
ITEM 4: PARRS AND PUBLIC GROUNDS MAINTENANCE DIVISION REPORT
Mr. Giacomarro gave the following report:
New decals have been placed on the Department's trucks displaying the
Department's logo.
Northfield Park: The City's spring softball season has been
completed. Shade screens have been placed the
dugouts. Sand volleyball leagues are in session.
Richfield Park: Normal park maintenance is continued.
Fossil Creek Park: Removal of fence on Field #2 to enlarge the field
area.
Norich Park: Eight horseshoe pits have been completed.
The tree farm at North Ridge Elementary has been completed and
"Project Learning Tree" has begun. Messrs. Hightshoe, Elder, and
Rodriguez have been active in putting together the "Tree Awareness
Program".
ITEM 5: RECREATION/ATHLETIC AND SENIOR ADULT REPORTS
Ms. Walsh gave the following report:
The "Summer Adventure Camp" has 25 kids per day. They go on field
trips visiting "Wet 'N Wild", City Jail, etc. The NYSCA "Hook-a-Kid"
on Golf" Program had 41 boys and girls (ages 8-15) registered for the
week long clinic. The children had sponsors who participated on the
last day of the clinic. '~Special" camps have been held for children,
i.e., Basketball Camp, Imagination Camp, Volleyball Clinic, etc.
The sand volleyball leagues have begun. The HCA Corporate Challenge
ended with a picnic on June 14, 1992 at the HCA North Hills Medical
Center Park with 350 in attendance. A NYSCA clinicians meeting was
held with various cities in northeast Tarrant County. RYA will be
sending five of their coaches to the National NYSCA conference. North
Richland Hills has certified approximately 800 coaches. The City
~ basketball Ieagues have begun and play on Monday evenings.
The Bursey Road Senior Adult Center held a picnic at Northfield Park's
gazebo. There was also a"Sing-Along" luncheon and Fourth of July
Celebration held. Sarah Hunsucker is the new Dan Echols Senior Adult
Center Director from Senior Services of Tarrant County. Miss Haltom-
Richland was present and sang at a covered dish luncheon.
Discussion of senior adult center memberships, snack machines and ID
cards was held.
ITEM 6: CITIZEN INPUT AND DISCUSSION OF OTHER ITEMS
It was discussed that a meeting should be held after the 1/2 Penny
Sales Tax election. Monday, August 10, 1992 at 6:30 PM was agreed
upon in addition to the regularly scheduled meeting on August 3, 1992.

ITEM 7: WORR3HOP ON SALES TAX REFERENDUM
Ms. Battles gave the following report:
An organizational meeting was held and discussion covered the benefits
of the 1/2 Penny Sales Tax. Other topics of discussion were the
fundraising campaign and possible donors, and "hot cards".
Mr. Browne gave the following information:
* Public Phone survey is being scheduled.
* News releases are being prepared.
* Youth sports associations will forward letters to their respective
members.
* A meeting has been scheduled with the senior adults.
* Information pieces will be placed in the water bills and a three-
fold direct mailing piece will be mailed towards the end of July.
* A database is being developed to cover various target voters.
* Facility expansion, park development, and land acquisition are being
discussed.
* The Texas Rangers Grant - for a little league stadium; information
for the application is being gathered.
ADJOURNMENT . Mr. Allen made a motion to adjourn at
7:35 PM. Mr. Lambert seconded the motion.
Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
