With most af th~ sparts seasons aver, activities have reduce3 in
most of tize parks . At Ric3zf ield Park the soccer and football
f ields are being prepared far f all. seasons . ht Pdorthf ield ~Park
work has concentrated on getting r~ady for the taurnament this
week end. Tile majority of parks crews time has been spent on
maintaining rights of way ai:d municipal buildings.

Department presentEd some ideas for startiiig a"Park Watcll",
which wauld be a prcgram similar ta the neighborhoo~ crime watch
prog~am5 currently act:~ve in the city. Because the actual needs
and functiai~s would need to be mapped otit for each ~ndividual
park, it was dccided t~at Ms. Ea~tles and Mr. Tipps would meet
with Off~cer Wilkins at a later date to put together a workable
project to bring back to the Board.

Karen Allen intr~duced herself as thE new commi~sioner of NRGS~
ef~ective September 1, 1588. Ms. Allen stated that she was
looking €orward to working with the Board ~nd staff. She also
told trae Eoard that 3zer main concern as commissioner was to
imp:-ave the park to the point that 2NRGSA would be a major
contender for tournaments.
DISCUSSION: Keith Massey of R3'A asked what the status of the
request for fencing c;~anges was. Mr. Petika told l~im that i~
was in the process af being intraduced to City Council, but that
the chances af it b~ing approved were slim.
