MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: David McGilvary, 6:53 PM.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Motion was made by Mr. Davis to approve and
a.ccept as submitted the minutes of the April 5,
1988 Board Meeting. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Fenimore. Vote was unanimous in favor of
acceptance af the minutes by those in
attendance at the April 5, 1988 Board
Meetiug.
NEW BUSINESS .
ITEM 4: PARKS DIVISI~N UPDATE
Mr. Giacamarro gave the following repart:
Fossil Creek Park: All work at Fossil Creek Park this month has
been routine.
Norich Park: All work at Norich Park this month has been
routine.
Richfield Park: All work at Richfield Park this month has been
routine.
Northfi~ld Park: We have received complaints from the softball
p~ayers that t~e infields are too hard. More sand has been
added and is being tilled in an effort to improve this
situation.

ITEM 5: RECRE~TIONJATHLETIC UPDATE:
Mr. Erowne gave tl:e fvllowing report:
A. Apri~. 15-27 TAfi~F State Co-Rec Major Volleyball Tournament
was held at the Recreation Center. Twenty four teams from
all over the state participated. Included with tlle packets
prepared for each Board Member is a copy of the revenue
sheet from this tournament and the estimated economic impact
generated. Local hotels offered special rates for
participants and even liad same complimeutary rooms far
officials. Richland High School allowed us use ~f their
gym. During and a€ter the touriiament we received numerous
compliments on the facilities and the organization of this
event.
B. April 22 our city Iiosted the meeting far the.North Texas
Recreation Association. A preseiitation was made on the
NYSCA program in Ilorth Richland Hills. Approximately 30
recreation prGfessionals from Dallas, Plano, Deilton,
Arlingt~n, Fort Wc~rth and Carrollt~n atteiided.
C. NYSCA clinics were held au April 26th and 28th. 154 fir~t
yzar coaches were certified and 44 second year caaches were
certified.
D. Our group participating in an international friendship
softball tournament will leave for Scotland G11 May 26th azzd
return on June 5th.
E. Our dance classes performed in tlze "Dance Festival" at North
Hills Mall last moiztlz as well as at the Four Seasons Nursing
Home. our dance class recital will be held oiz May 15 at
2:00 PM at Richland Junior High School. Znvitations are
included in the Board's packets.
F. On Saturday May 14, NRH Recreatiou Ceuter will have a bocth
and will have karate, dance, gymnastics and aerobics
demonsta:atians as part of the HCA Richland Hospital "Summer
Is No Bummer" summer activity promotian at North Hills Mall.
G. The NRH PARD was approved by NTSU for their summer
internship program. Bob Hagin was selected from the student
«pplicants a~2d will be teaching tennis for kids as well as
supervising a summer activity program.
H. Than}:s to the North P.ichlaiid Fire Departmeiit,
Firefighter/BMT Steve Papagno provided a CFR certification
course for our attEndants and ottr aerobics instructors.

K. Surveys are being printed for mail out to geograpl~ic regions
c~f the city. Tliese surveys will be mailed out in tl~e
upcoming we~ks.
Discussian: Mr. Davis as}:ed Mr. Erowile if all CGar11ES had tc~ be
certifiEd by NYSC~. Mr. ~rownE told him tliat at least one coach
for each team must be certified.
ITEM 6: P1RH SENIOR CITIZEN CEIJTER REPORT
The Chair asked for a representative from the ~eni~r Center,
tller~ was nane present. Tl~e representative from the Center was
unable to attend, but a written report was included in the
packets provided to each Board member.
ITEM 7: RICHLAND YOUTH ASSOCIATION REFORT
The Ghair asked for a representative from RYA. Dan Munoz gave
- the fo].lawing report: The only information RYA has to report is
that Terry Higgs resigned as president of the organization.
There has not been a meeting yet to decide who will replace him,
bu~ tIie scheduled meEting will be held Thursday at Richfield
Park at 7:a0 PM.
Discu~sion: Mr. Davis asked if the issue about what was served
at the c~ncession stands had bEen re~olved. Mr. t~unoz told him
that RYA was now servinq pre-cooked steak sandwiches and seemed
to be liavinq gre«t success witl~ tliem. Mr. McGilvary stated that
any af the Soard or staff inembers wau~.d be glad to help if any
qu~stions came up about tl~e associatioil's ccntacts with the
city.
ITEM 8: NORTH RICHLAND GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
Tl~e Chair askEd for a represeiltative from NRGSA, none was
present. Mr. Petika tald the Board that tre had received a phone
call from KEn Graves stating that he had resigned fram NRGSA.
No mention ~f having a repZacement available for the meeting was
discussEd.
