APPROVAL ~F TliE MINUTES : Motion was made by Mr. Davis to
approvt and accept a~ submitted the
minutes of the June 3, 1986 Board
Meeting. Motion was seconded by
Mr. Tipps. Vote was unanimous in favor
of the motion by thcse in attendance
at the May 6, 1986 Board Meeting.
NEW BUSINESS :
ITEM i: THE INTRQDUCTIQN OF THE ~OARD~`S NEW MEMB~ER
Mr. McGilvary introduced and f ormall~ welcomed
Ms. Sharon Battles as the new nrember.
Ms. Battle~ is replacing Mr. Mack G~rvin, who was
recently ~lected to th~ City Councit.
ITEM 2: UPDATE QN FOSSIL CREEK PARK TRAIL
The taw water crossing has heen approv~d as per our
design by the Corps of Engin~ers. We shoutd be
• proce~ding on their next dri11 weekend. There wilt
probabty be two drill weeks together. The fir~t is when
they make a temporary dam to hold back the cre~k long

enaush to ~et the pipe. This will take most of a
S~turday. 7hey will set the pipe on Sunday and anchor
them with riff-raff. The foilowing weekend, weather
p~rmitting, they will finali~e th~ riff-raff and pour the
concrete. In the ner.t two year budget, we anticipate
paving the trait. This will complete their part of the
proj~tt.
I7EM 3: PARKS DEPAfiTMENT UF'DATE
Mr. Giacomarra gave the fotlowing report:
Fossil Creclc Park - Appears to be operating normally.
The only problem concerns the trail, where we have had
vandatism at three or four of the exercise Stations.
Richfield Park - An etectric~:l crew has completed the
wire wcrk at the top of the poles.
Northfi~ld Park - problem with graund f ailing to dry
cut, due ta contractors who did the original work on the
park. They did not crawn the fieid and l~ave the infield
four to six inches betow the level of th~ concrete du9
out slab~. Electricians $houtd be out tomorrow to
comptete the parieing and playground light~, ground wire5
have be~n instatled.
N~^i~h Park - Our ei~ctricai prabl~ms are resolved.
The only problem is vandalism on ~he tennis caurts. We
ar~ having n~ts stoten and slashed. Due to the high cost
of the~~ nets, Mr. McGilvary proposed we look into chain
link net~, then report back to the 8oard. A staff
recommendation will be made on feasibility.
I7EM 4: R~CREATIqN REFORT
Mr. Broane reported that we have had a number of
activitie~.
- June 21 was the Second Annuai Founder's Uay celebra-
tion. At1 activities went very well~ with good
respon~~ from those in attendance. The "James Gang"
Gunfighters were very welt received as wetl a~~ the
~emonstrations perf ormed by the Community Center
in~tructors and parti~ipants.
- June 21 wa~ alsa the S~cond Annual Mayor's Cup Soft-
batl Game. The Fire Departm~nt gained their revenge
ov~r the Poiice Department after def eating the Water .
Department to win the 2nd annual Mayor's Cup.
- June 28 the girts f astpitch assaciation hosted a
~
r~9ional t~urnam~nt for TAAF tT~xas Amateur Athletic
Fed~ration) with the Department`s assistance. They
did a great jab, and quat if ied four teams for the
State Tournament.
- July 12 wa~ the Adutt City League's City Flayoff~. We
finaliz~d mo~t of the Spring league'~ ptay, with '
ap~n class and church team tourna~ments. Eight teams
wil{ be etigible to repres~nt our city in regionai
tournam~nts.
- July 18 & 19 the Department will host the TAAF Fegion
IV, M~n's Class C, Slowpitch Softball Tournament.
There wi11 be ~pproximately tw~nty-two teams out af
twenty-four allocated who will attend this tournament
representing cities in R~gian IV f rom Lewisvile to
White Settiement.
- Fali Softbatl Regi~tration wili begin in August.
Mr. Petika ~poke on the Monthty kepart and ~tated that
ou~ budget taaks better than it ever has in the past.
~ H~ nc?ted that registration far cla~ses and softball •
` have increased. Mr. Petika brought it to the Board's
attenticK? of new po~itians b~ing addad to our budge
Mr. Petika made a speciat request that the Baard
recagnize the votunteers of our S~niar Citizens G~nter.
They wark very hard giving of their time and eff ort.
Mr. Fenimor~ made a motion that they be recognized at a
City Council meetin9. The motion was seconded by Mrs.
~attles. Vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
I7EM DISCUSSIOPt OF ITEMS N07 ON AGENDA
Mr. Tipps inquired inf ormation on th~ new 9o1f course
that will be built in our City. Mr. Petika replied
that it wa$ still under negotiations. The American
Golf A~~ociation will build, staff and maintain the
f acility. The City buys th~ land and receives a
per~entag~ of the prafit. Mr, Tipps al~o requested
information on th~ amount of vehicle~ that are assign~d
to the Rarks and R~creation Departme~t. Mr. Petika
stated that we now have a~signed threr cars, three
pickups, ene flatb~d and one dumptruck and could use
mare. These vehictes are used to hetp maintain the
brautification af the City.
Mr. 7ipps compliment~d the City on their part in
helping with the Wagon Train.
