RECREAtION COMMISSION Of THE CITY OF NORTH

CALL TO
ORDER The meeting of the Parks and Recreation
Commission of the City of North Richland Hills
was called to order by Chairman Everett Hays
at 6:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL PRESENT:

ITEM II Selection of winners in the Name The Park Contest.
Mr. Darnell inquired as to how the Cor~nission
was to decide if one of the entries went over
25 words or less, because some of them had
double words.
City Manager Riddle advised Mr. Darnell that
they were to judge on the 25 words only if
there was a tie or the judges could not make
a decision on the name.
The scores were as follows:
001 - 8 points, 002 - 7 points; 003 - 6 points,
004 - 19 points; 005 - 24 points, 006 - 11 points,
007 - 14 points, 008 - 10 points, 009 - 7 points,
O10 - 12 points, 011 - 13 points, 012 - 8 points,
013 - 12 points, 014 - 10 points, 015 - 9 points,
016 - 9 points, 017 - 10 points, O18 - 17 points,
019 - 13 points, 020 - 14 points, 021 - 8 points,
022- 13 points, 023 - 15 points, 024 - 14 points,
025 - 18 points, 026 - 13 points, 027 - 10 points,
028 - 8 points, 029 - 9 points, 030 - 13 points,
031 - 20 points, 032 - 12 points, 033 - 10 points,
034 - 19 points, 035 - 7 points, 036 - 6 points,
037 - 10 points, 038 - 13 points, 039 - 8 points,

Number Q05 was declared the winner with 24
points. The name being Richfield Park.
There being a tie on 04d and 051 with 22 points
each, a second vote was taken and 048 was named
lst runnerup with 29 points. Number 051 was
named 2nd runnerup with 24 points.
There was also a tie on 040 and 055 with 21 points
each, a second vote was taken and 040 was named
3rd runnerup with 27 points. Number 055 was
named 4th runnerup with 21 points.
The winners of the contest will be formaly
announced by the City Council Febuary 12, 1973.
Chairman Hays asked City Manager Riddle to send
a letter of recognition: to all who entered the
contest:
City Manager Riddle advised Chairman Hays that
the winners would be p'resented with a Resolution.
ITEM ADDED Chairman Hays ask City Manager Riddle for a
repor~ on the r.ecomnendation~the Commission
made to the City Council concerning the baseball
park at Fossil Park.
City Manager Riddle advised that the City Council
denied the request.
Chairman Hays advised the Proposal I of Richland
Youth Association would be on the March agenda.
Mr. Darnell inquired if the reason the City
Council denied the request was the way it was
presented.
City Manager Riddle advised Mr. Darnell that
the City Cauncil did not allways go along with
the Co~nissions reconmendations.
Mr. Darnell advised he thought they were poorly
represented.
City Manager Riddle advised Mr. Darnell that one
of the first questions the Council ask when
sameone is appointed to a Co~nission or Board,
if ~~e do not approve your recommendations,
do:not take it personal.

Chairman Hays advised that the next time
the Commission had something to present to
the City Council thE Chairman or a representative
of the Commission will make the presentation.
Mr. Benny Riddle advised the Corr~nission that
Richland Youth Association needed an answer
on Proposal I, as soon as possible.
Chairman Hays advised that the Cortunnission
would consider Richland Youth Association
Proposal I, at the March meeting.
There being no f.urther items for discussion,
Mr, Darnell moved, seconded by Mrs. Robinson,
that the meeting be adjourned. The motion
carried by a vate of 5-0.
