CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Acting
Chairman Asa Short.

CONSIDERATION Election of A New Chai_rma.~
Mr. Riddle advised the Coasmission the purpose
of this meeting was to elect a new Chairman,
siace Mr. Sprinkle had resigned.
Mr. Connelly made a motion to nominate Asa Short
for Chairman, I+ir. Hays seconded the motion.
The motion carried by a vote of 3-Q.
Mr. Short accepted the appointment.
Mr. Ballenger told the tnembers he thought they
should elect a Vice-Chaix~man, so he could attend
the meetings if Mr. Short could not.
Mr. Short made a matiaa to eleet Mr. Connelly
for Vice-Chairman. Mr. Hays seconded the motion.
The motion ca.rried by a vote of 3-0.
PARK SITE Mr. Ballenger di~cussed the land that had been
appropriated for the prapcsed new park and
showed the members maps on the park site.
Mr. Short said he would like to have a track
~ field as well as a football and ba.seball field.
~ Mr. Connelly asked about tables in the park
on On~y Drive South. He would like more tables
in both parks. He asked if the City could put
in concrete tables. Mr. Ballenger advised him
they could.
Mr. Riddle asked the members about operating
a central conceseion etand. Profit from the
concession could be used to help pay summer
personnel. Mr. Short raanted to operate on a
percentage ba.sis.
Mr. Riddle told the Cocmniesion he thought they
should get involved in:a fund raising project
such as the Library has, only on a larger scale.
PLAHS Mr. Short adyised the Commission Members he
had planned ~o go to Arlington in the next
few days aad talk with Mayor Vandergriff,
and see if he could get a copy of the plans
they used to build their park.
Mr. Hays said he thought they ehould contact
two or three different Citi~s and get their
plans for the Gammission Members to review.
N[r. Hay~ and Mr. Hunkele wi11 contact the City
of Garland and set an appaintmeat to meet
with their Parks and Recreation Committee to
review their plans.
tdr. Ballenger advised the Commission he would
not be attending any meetinge in the future
and that Mr. Riddle would attend in his place.
Mr. Riddle told the Cammission that he would
make a short report to the City Council after
each meeting. He will also keep the minutes
of the meetings.
Mr. Hays asked that the ne~t meeting date be
set up a~ ~oon as possible so the pla.ns aould
be reviewed. Then ga ta the City Council with
a detailed report.
Mr. Short wanted the meeti.ng held after the
Officers for the Richland Youth Associatian
are elected. ZR~e Cammie~ion would like to
invite the Association Officers to attend
the meetir~g. T+~r. Hunkele aeke8 that the next
meeting be set for sometir~e in 3anuary.
The meeting wa.s set for January 17, 1972, 7:~ P•m•
Mr. Riddle advised the Gommission they would
ba notified by letter befare the nezt meeting
and he would also notify Mr. Hersahel Ivey,
president of the Richland Youth Association
inviting him to attend.
