HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1989-10-19 Minutes , NORTH BICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES October 19, 1989 ~ The North Richland Hills Libr~ry Board met in the board room of the library on October 19, at 7 p.m. Present were Jan Daniels, Jay Bradshaw, Roxie Hamilton, Clyde Zellers, Kay Schmidt, Bob Hardy, Arlita Hallam, and $renda Lewis. Absent were Polly Brinkley and Alisa Wood. Chairman Jan Daniels called the meeting to order. Clyde Zellers moved, Bob Hardy seeonded, and the motion carried to approve the minates of the September 21 meeting. Arlita Hallam introduc~d Jay Bradshaw, who was appointed to the Board by Mayor Pro Tem Aichard Davis. Kay Schmidt has re~oined the Board as Councilwoman Linda Spurlock's repres~ntative. Polly Br3nkley and Clyde Zellers were re- appointed by Councilmen Lyle W~lch and Charles Scoma. Chairsnan Jan Daniel~ declared the offices of Chairman and Vice-Chairman open for the 1989/90 term. Jan Daniels was nominated for chairman by Clyde Zellers; seconded by Roxie Hamilton. Clyde Zellers was nominated as vice-chairman by Bob Hardy; seccndsd by Kay Schmidt. Jan Daniels and Clyde Zellers were elected as Library Board Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively for 1489/90. Following discussion, it was decided that Arlita FIallam would contact outgoing mesnbers Janice Fenfmor~ and Mike Fritz to arrange a dinner in their honor to tentatively concur with the naxt board meeting date. Invitatioas will be sent to Board and City Council members and spouses as soon as plans are confirmed. Library DireGtor Arlita Hallam included the following in this month's library report: . -Circulation for 1988-89 was 320,379; an increase of 5~ over 1987-88. 7,598 library materials were added in 1988-89; 4,9b7 people applied for library cards; and 43,503 reference questions were answered. -Revenues to be genezated by fines and fees this year fnclude charging a non-resident fee to Watauga residents as well as all other non-residents, and increasing the fee from ~10 to $12 per year. -As saon as procedures can be put in place by the bank, the library will begin accepting major credit cards for payments of fines, fees, lost books, faxed articles, and photocopy charges over a five doliar minimum. The 1989-94 Goals and Ob3ectives were approved at the June 1989 Library Board meeting. Arlita Hallam distributed copies of the NRH Flan of Service for 1989-94. Arlita reviewed and discus~ed with the Board the nine gaals included in this plan and the achievements toward them. Following extensive discussion an non-resident fees for library cards, Bob Hardy moved that the Board request to City Council that Birdville Independent School District librarians b~ included in the present program for a cost-free library card. The motion was not seconded. The next regular meeting was schet}uled for November 16, 1989. This meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. Brenda Lewis .
