May 24, 1989
The Ma 24 meetin of the North R
Y 8 ichland Hills Library Board was
held in the board room of the library at 3:30 p.m. Present were
Kay Schmidt, Alisa Wood, Mike Fritz, and Arlita Hallam. Absent
were Roxie Hamilton, Jan Daniels, Janice Fenimore, Polly Brinkley
and Clyde Zellers.
There was not a Quorum present at this meetinst
Arlita Hallam introduced the new audio-visual coordinator, Sandy
Virden.
Kay Schmidt reported on the trustee workshop at White Settlement
and encouraged all board members to check out the workshop video
and borrow items from the NTLS professional collection. Kay dis-
tributed the NTLS professional collection cat~log to members.
The Board discussed Mayor Tommy Brown's request to discontinue
issuing warrants for arrest of patrons who have ignor~d six previous
library and court warnings for overdue materials. Kay polled members
present and will take a telephone pol~ of absentees to malce a recom-
mendation to the City Council. The consensus of those present was
that if there was a better way that involved getting the books
back or money to replace the materials taken, we would certainly
be interested in exploring it. Community service hours shelving
~ books was discussed. Until a more effective means is found, the
current system is a deterrent, does work well, and has been copied
by other libraries looking for a better way to punish offenders.
The registration fee is ~73 per day to attend the American Library
Association Conference meetings and seminars. Exhibits passes
are free. Kay Sctunidt and Alisa Wood expressed an intezest in
attending on Saturday, June 24. The library has budgeted for board
attendance. Board memb~rs should request in advanca a check for
registration at the door or may be reimbursed. Arlita Hallam will
have the free exhibits passes for board members (family and friends
can attend). She will also handle the registration payments.
Discussion followed on the possibility of changing the regnlar
board meeting time, day, and/or date. Members present were comfortable
with the current time slot, but requested that it be discussed
by the entire board.
Draft copies of the Planning Process Goals and Objectives were
distributed and will be reviewed at the June meeting.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 28, at 3:30 p.m.
