HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1989-05-24 Minutes NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD Minutes May 24, 1989 The Ma 24 meetin of the North R Y 8 ichland Hills Library Board was held in the board room of the library at 3:30 p.m. Present were Kay Schmidt, Alisa Wood, Mike Fritz, and Arlita Hallam. Absent were Roxie Hamilton, Jan Daniels, Janice Fenimore, Polly Brinkley and Clyde Zellers. There was not a Quorum present at this meetinst Arlita Hallam introduced the new audio-visual coordinator, Sandy Virden. Kay Schmidt reported on the trustee workshop at White Settlement and encouraged all board members to check out the workshop video and borrow items from the NTLS professional collection. Kay dis- tributed the NTLS professional collection cat~log to members. The Board discussed Mayor Tommy Brown's request to discontinue issuing warrants for arrest of patrons who have ignor~d six previous library and court warnings for overdue materials. Kay polled members present and will take a telephone pol~ of absentees to malce a recom- mendation to the City Council. The consensus of those present was that if there was a better way that involved getting the books back or money to replace the materials taken, we would certainly be interested in exploring it. Community service hours shelving ~ books was discussed. Until a more effective means is found, the current system is a deterrent, does work well, and has been copied by other libraries looking for a better way to punish offenders. The registration fee is ~73 per day to attend the American Library Association Conference meetings and seminars. Exhibits passes are free. Kay Sctunidt and Alisa Wood expressed an intezest in attending on Saturday, June 24. The library has budgeted for board attendance. Board memb~rs should request in advanca a check for registration at the door or may be reimbursed. Arlita Hallam will have the free exhibits passes for board members (family and friends can attend). She will also handle the registration payments. Discussion followed on the possibility of changing the regnlar board meeting time, day, and/or date. Members present were comfortable with the current time slot, but requested that it be discussed by the entire board. Draft copies of the Planning Process Goals and Objectives were distributed and will be reviewed at the June meeting. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 28, at 3:30 p.m. Arlita Hallam
