HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1989-04-26 Minutes ~ NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD ~ Minutes ~ April 26, 1989 ~ The April 26 meeting of the North Richiand Hills Library Board was held in the board room of the library at 3:30 p.m. Present were Polly Srinkley, Jan Daniels, Alisa Wood, Roxie Fiamilton, Arlita Hallam, and Brenda Lewis. Absent were Janice Fenimore, Clyde Zellers, Kay Schmidt, and Mike Fritz. Vice-Chairman Jan Daniels called the meeting to arder; the minutes of the March 29 meeting were approved as written. Library Director Arlita Hallam's report included the following information: Sandy Virden will be joining the staff on May 1, as Audio-Visual Coordinator. Sandy is an MLS graduate of the University of North Texas and has a background in computers and law librarianship. As a result of the high turnover rate of professional employees in the last few years, City administration is re-evaluating the salary levels for professional librarians with the Master's in Library Science degree. The library wi11 be closed on May 26, for the annual staff development day. Dr. Barbara Ivy of Texas Woman's University will be presenting ~ a program on conflict resolution and stress management. Mayor Tommy Brown is addressing the problem of the condition of the library parking area with the City Council. Arlita distributed worksheets for the 1989/90 line-item budget requests which are due on April 28. Requests for decision package items are due on May 15. These are the first steps of the budget process which will conclude with the public hearings and budget adoption in September. Following discussion on the budget proposals and the 1989/94 library planning process, Roxie Hamilton moved~ Alisa Wood seconded, and the motion carried to work toward the goal of reaching the minimum Texas Library Association standard of two library resources per capita by 1944. ~ Polly Brinkley moved; Roxie Hamilton seconded, and the motion carried to seek the reinstatement of the children's librarian and to provide adequate trained staff to assist patrons as the second goal for the long-range plan for 1989/94. Board members are planning to attend the May 20, board workshop at White Settlement and the June 24, conference of American Library Association in Dallas. ~ The next meeting was scheduled for May 24, 1989.
