HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1989-03-29 Minutes f r NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD ~ Minutes ~ March 29, 1989 , The March 29 meeting of the North Richland Hills Library Board was held in the board room of the library at 3:30 p.m. Present were Polly Brinkley, Jan Daniels, Janice Fenimore, Clyde Zellers, Kay Schmidt, Alisa Wood, Mike FritZ, ArZita Hallam, and Brenda Lewis. Roxie Hamilton was absent. Chairman Kay Schmidt called the meeting to order; the minutes of the February 22 meeting were approved as written. ~ Kay Schmidt reported that the City Council approved a 40-hour temporary children's librarian position for the summer. BISD school librarians Brenda Cody and Sylvia Ritchie will share the temporary position. ArZita Hallam reported that Audio-Visual Coordinator Judy McCoy has resigned to accept a position with the Fort Worth Public Library. In the past four years, twelve professional librarians have resigned to accept professional positions at a higher salary elsewhere. The library staff is working with the NRH Police Department on the problem of a man identifying himself as "Jim Harrison or Jim Larson of the NRHPL" calling parents of school children informing them that their child has an overdue library book. A notation on the March water bill will alert residents to this hoax and request that they phone the police if contacted by this person. ~ Arlita Hallam invitad Board members to accompany her to the April 27 NTLS semi-annual meeting in Olney. Kay reported that the workshop she attended recently on long-range planning was very informative. Although the program was keyed to smaller libraries, the information will be helpful in NRHPL's 1989/94 planning process. ~ Following discussion of the City goals for 1989/90 and the library goals and objectives for 1989/94, the consensus was that the library should concentrate on raising the books per capita from 1.45 to 2 and additional personnel. The NRIiPL has the highest circulation rate per book per year in the state of Texas. Following discussion on ways to inform the citizens of library services and library needs, Kay Schmidt will contact Mike Brinkley, President of the Friends of the Library, to propose a joint meeting of the Board and the Friends for a planning session. Clyde Zellers moved, Janice Fenimore seconded, motion carried to commend Vice Chairman Jan Daniels for her March 13 presentation to the City Council requesting that the children's librarian position be reinstated. The next meeting was scheduled for April 26, 1989. This meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m. ' Brenda Lewis
