March 23, 1988
The North Richland Hills Librsry Board met M~rch 23, at 3:30 p.m.
in the boazd room. Present were Kay Schmidt, Mickey Oscford~ Polly
Brinkley, Mattie Belle Lewis, Jan Daniels, Roxie Hamilton. Arlita
Hallam, and Brenda Le~?is. Absent were Clyde Zellers and Mike Fritz.
Chairman Kay Schmidt call~d the meeting to order. The minutes
of the January 27 meeting were approved.
Ar13ta Halla~n shared the following library news:
Circulation is expected to reach 500,0~0 by the end of the
fiscal year. Most of aur statistics hsve doubled or more.
Materials sre our greatest need now.
Francis MacFarlane, children's caordfnatoz, has resigned
effective the end of May. Li2 Logan, children's librarian,
has been promoted to fill the coordinator's position.
With the recent 5~: budget cuts (2R further cuts possible),
the library staff is cansidering means of fund raising. We
are activating the "Friends" group, applying for grants and
governm~nt funds, and considering the fe~?sibility of a gift
shop in the library.

The consensus of inembars was that the libraxy should cansider
and exglore various ar~as for fund-raising projects.
Mickey Oxford expressed t'hanks on behalf of the board to the library
staff for the extra effort required to handle the increased circu-
lation and library activity.
Following discussion led by NTLS L~y Representative Polly Brinkley,
the boar8 concurred with the proposed suggestion that NTLS quarterly
meetings which include lay representatives be reduced to two per
year. Discussion follow~d on ways of raising fts~ds that would
enable the NTLS to operate as a non-profit organization.
Arlita reported that Beverly Jackson, who has recently relocated
to this area, will be coordinating the Planning Process Comtaittee.
Beverly h~s a background in marketing and off~red to do volunteer
work. This committea is compiling information in preparation
for the May appo3ntment of committee members.
The next meeting is scheduled for Apri1 27, at 3:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
