HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1987-04-22 Minutes t: : ~ NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES APRIL 22, 1987 The North Richland Hills Library Board met Wednesday, April 22, in the Cable Studio. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kay Schmidt. The minutes of the March meeting were approved as written. _ Arlita Iiallam introduced guest Linda Spurlock who was r~cently elected to the NRH City Cauncil. Linda is attending the City's boards and comimissions meetings to become acquainted with members and to sssess each board's particular needs. - The Library Director shared the following information with members: - In hanor af National Volunteer Week, she presented the members with a small gift in appreciation of their service to our library. Kay was interviewed for an article on NRH's bosrds and com~nissions that appears in this quarter's NRH Newsletter. The recent TLA conference in Austin was both en~oyable and informative. She is working with local Iibraries, TCJC, and the Chamber to set up business resource collections at each location to assist loca~ busin~sspeople. . _ Library Director Beth Hall of Haltom City is retiring after many years of service on April 30. Haltam City Library is - hosting ~rn ogen house that day fram 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The ~ publia is invited to stap by and visit with Beth. The Grand 4p~ning has been scheduled for September 25-26. The cotmaittee, chaired by Charles and Polly Brin~ley, is planning a Friday evening invitation-only reception and program and all day entertainment on Saturday. The bid for furniture far the new library will he awarded at the City Council ~eeting on April 27. The renovations to the building are approximately 52X complete, and we are anticipating a mid-August move. The Director will be appearing before the NRH Civil Service Coaunission in early Hay to request the reclassification of some staff p4sitions and the addition of others. .C~atplanation of the requests are in the handouts Lhat sh~ di~tributed. The NRH Sesquicentennial Conrnittee prssented the Lfbrary with $6,375. The funds have been divided amongh the Cable, Audio- _ Visual, Children's, and Adult Services departments of the Library. r r NRH Library Board April 22, 1987 Page 2 Invitations for our Volunteer Brunch on Apri1 29, at 9 a.m. have betn mailed. Arlita urged any member whose schedule permits ta join us for fellowship and refreshments on that Wednesday morning. P"ollowing discussion and upon motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the NRH Library Board will request that Chairman Kay Schmidt su~ait a letter to the NRH Civil Service Commission reconmaending that the Cotmnission approve the proposed reorgan- ization, reclassif3cation, and addition of staff positions. " Also, on motion made, seconded, and carried, the Baard will explore with the Parks and Recreation Board the feasibility of an incrasse in the voluntary donation on the monthly water bill from SQ~ ta ~1. The funds would be divided equally between Parks and Recreation and the Library.
