MINUTES
FEBRUARY 25, 1987
The North Richland Hills Library Board met Wednesday, February 25,
in the Cable Studio.
The meeting was called to order by Chairn?an Kay Schmidt. The minutes
of the January meeting were approved as written.
Library Director Arlita Hallam shared the follawing information with
Board members:
The renovations of the new building are progressing very wal~
The current move-in date is the last of July.
The parking situation at the municipal building is extremely bad.
To minimize patron inconvenience, we are publicizing telephone
reference and charging fines only for material under contract
(i.e. VHS, computers, art prints).
The Director and department heads are doing preparator~ work for
the 1987-88 operating budget.
The bids are now out for library furnishings and will be opened
March 19.
She and Adult Services Librarian Barbara Thede attended Legislative Day
in Austin on February 18 and 19. State Representatives Bill Carter
and Charles Evans were among the members that they met with to
discuss library legislation. Arlita feels that this was time
well spent.
She is chairing a"Business Information Subcommittee" of the Chamher
of Commerce to develop business reference sections at the chamber,
TCJC, and other local libraries.
The GED program has expanded to three evenings and one afternoon
per week. Arlita had what she felt to be a very productive and
positive discussion with GED instructor Hazel Lowrance.
The Board will host a dinner on Friday, February 27, at 7 p.m. at the
Steak and Ale Restaurant to honor past aboard members Lynn 0'Day and
Bob Courser.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 25, 1987. Members interested
in touring the new facility are to meet with the Library Director at
the new building at 2:45 p.m.
