January 24, 1973
- The regular meetin~ of the board was called to order at 4:00
p.m. The minutes of the last meeting wer e read and approved.
Mr. William Polster, president of the Citizens Library Association
reported on the sale of the fruit cakes before Chxistmas. He said
a general. meeting of the Citizens would take place Feb. 6th and
post cards will be sent out to notify members. The financial report
was also $iven.
Mrs. Prewitt announced that the complete inventory of the book
collection had been completed and that after subtracting 372 books
not accounted for (missing, lost through overdues, and change over
of book accounting system), the book collection total is 9,463.
The water donation money current balance for the library is
$3,438.90. Mrs. Prewitt announced that the Boy Scouts are buiidin~
shelves for the paperback collection as their community pz?oject.
The shelves will be presented to the library next week. New metal
display shelves are on order to s~ w~i~h the McNaughton Plan, a book service
plan Mrs. Prewitt explained/~~in~~~ b~oa".~d. Also, the Citizens purchased
for the library a DuKane filmstrip-cassette pro~ector, movie screen, and
a globe (on order). Filmstrips and cassettes will also be purchased
' with money donated by the Citizens. These will be used for the story
hour and summer readi.ng program. Publicity on all these gifts will
appear in the Mid-Cities paper. The annua]. report to the Texas
State Library was shown to the board.
The overdue book situation was discussed, and the board recommended
that the police department be contacted to go after books not
returned after patrons rec~ive all appropriate notices and ignore
them.
Mr. Polster reported that the Citizens had discussed taking an opinion
poll to get the community's opinion of a bond issue for a municipal
complex. Mr. Brinkley said that as petition was already being cir-
culated askin.g for a bond election and that he would ~et some of
these. The board members agreed to help pass these petitions.
