The re~ular meeting of the North Richland Hills Library Commission
was called to order at 4:30 P.M. The minutes of the last meeting
were approved as read.
A report was made to the board by Mrs. Prewitt of the meeting of the
Tarrant County Study Committee meeting held August 26th in the Haltom
City Public Library. The meetinq was held to propose an increase in
county funding to libraries.. and a method of presenting the proposal.
It was proposed that the per capita spending be raised back to 30~
and that the small libraries, whose funding iMrseuld not be changed
because of the 52,000.00 limit, receive a 10% increase. Another
meeting of all the representatives is to be held the last Monday
in September before presenting the request to the county commisioners
at their next meeting.
Mrs. P~Ewitt gave a report on the outcome of the Stumner Reading
Program. Eighty-four reading certificates were given to children
for reading the proscribed twelve books, and the circulation of
books reached new highs for the year.
Mrs. Prewitt also announced the plans for the early childhood
program to be put into effect this fall in coe~peration with the
special services divis~on of the public schools and the day care
centers. A report was made on the spending and ordering of
materials of this LSCA funded grant, and on the current status
of the Library and Park Fund.
Mrs. Oscar Reeder informed the board of the information on library
trustees she had received from Texas State Library. Dr. Kulaga
asked that she read the material for a report to the book at the
next meeting.
