The minutes of the last m~eting and monthly reports were presented to the board. The minutes vrer~ approved as read. Eiection of officers was the first busines~ on the agenda. Mrs. Oscar Reeder and Mrs. Charles Brinkley were nominated for Chairperson by Mr. Conger and Mr. Davis. Dr. Smotherman moved that the board elect M~s. Reeder Chairperson and Mrs. Brinkley ~~~+_~airperson. Motion was seconded and the nort+inees elected as officers. The board approved Mrs. Prewitt caontinuing as Secretary of the Hoard. A discussion was held on the possibility of asking the City Council for a change in meeting room rules to allow coffee and food at library meetings. A~=~le~ision was made to let present rules stand. A Bicentennial project to collect funds from local merchants to bind the collection of National Geog~raphic magazines, dating back to 1914, was discussed. The approximate cost of each volume would be S6. The board agreed that this would be a worthwhile project and discussed means of getting a list of n~rchants in North Richland Hills. Mr.~Conger and Mrs. Prewitt were asked by Mrs. Reeder ta try several sources for this list. - A method of contacting people to avoid duplication of effort was discussed; a numbered list with a nwnber for each volume needed would be divided among board ~nabers and only the number needed would then be sold. Mr. Davis suggested that a mean~ of getting non-library users into the library would be to ask a local business to donate prizes. A card would be s~nt to non-library users to come to the library to get the prize. The prizes would carry the name of the donor. The board discussed this idea and agreed to try it during National Library Week in April. l4rs. Prewitt asked that the board pass a recommendation on the Q~c~~~cy of fee charqe for l~st library cards. During the sumner the cost was raised from .25a to .50~t, following local trends and rising costs. A second duplicate would cost .75a and a third or more duplicate card would be 51.00. After a discussion on possible complaints over the cost of the second and third card, Mrs. Hazlew~od moved that Mrs. Prewitt's recommendation of retu.rning to a flat fifty cent fe~ per duplicate card be followed. Dr. Smotherman seconded it and the board pass~d the recommendation. Mrs. Prewitt asked that the board c?i.determine a policy for hanging art works in the library. She reported that one library asks that the local art guild select the works. After discu~ision the board reco~unended that the schools be contacted for scheduled monthly art displays. During the sume~er the possibility of the Trinity Art Guia~d selecting art works w~uld be checked by Mrs. Reeder and Mrs. Brinkley. -z- ~ Due to the length of the meeting Mrs. Prewitt asked that the board read over the reports handed out at the beginning of the meeting for information on current library activities. She reported that an article on library services would be appearing in a city newsletter to be published soon. Library growth figu~es to appear in this article were read to the board. Because of th~ Thanksgiving holiday, the board will meet~.next on November 17th. Meeting adjourned.
