Mrs. Reeder and Dr. Smotherman were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Discussion followed regarding the feasibility of opening the library at night. Dr. Smotherman and Mrs. Reeder felt that it ~uld be more in- jurious to close the library during the morning hours as patrons are now accustomed to these hours. It was suggested that the better alternative would be a larger staff. Due to the absence of many of the board members it was decided to table discussion on the city o~dinance until the September meeting. The Book Sale was discussed and the middle of October was considered the most advantageous time. Mrs. Prewitt said Scout Allen Schup would pro- vide help for the book sale and this met with board approval. A book drive will begin September 12th to provide more books for the sale. The Library will provide publicity by informing area papers, sending notices, and post3.ng a notice for volunteers to help sell on bulletin boards. Area papers that were considered were the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Mid-Cities News and Northeast Observer. - Opening records of library application files were discussed. It was suggested by Dr. Smotherman that records be closed to all by Ordinance 100 with the possible exception of local law enforcement agencies and other libraries. It was also suggested that any im~ormation revealed by the library be only in the event of extenuating circumstances that would warrant revealing this information. As a general policy, in keep- ing with the attorney general, information WILL NOT BE GIV~i OUT by telephone. Mrs. Prewitt reported tYiat the Library and Park Fund balance was approx- imately $800.00 as of August 1st and that all efforts were being made to keep this balance low to present a good report to Texas State Library in October. Mrs. Prewitt also announced that the state portion of the L.S.C.A. funds would be $2,250.89.
