NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY CONB~lISSION
March 28, 1979
The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Brinkley, folloru~d by the roll call.
Mrs. Prewitt requested that the order of business be changed to allow
Mr. Paul, the City Manager, to present a request to the board. Mr. Paul
informed the board that a city switchboard operator is to be on duty
until 9:00 P.M. each weekday night. Future plans call for a night
janitor to be or~ duty in City Hall. Because of these changes and the
need for a place for civic meetings at night, Mr. Paul requested the
Board to advise the City Council that the S25 charge, for use of the
meeting rc~om when the Library is closed, be deleted from the Meeting
Roon~ ~olicy (Resolution 75-16). A discussion of this followed and Ron
Smc>ther presented the ~lation: The Library Board recommends to the
City Council that the charge of S25 for use of the m~eting room when
the Library is closed be deleted from Resolution 75-16; that the
resolution be amended to so read and to state that groups be required
to end meetings at 8:45 and vacate the premises by 8:55 P.M. Mrs.
Lewis seconded the motion; motion passsed. Mrs. Brinkley requested
Mrs. Prewitt to writ~ a letter to the City Council advising them of
the change requested.
Mrs. Prewitt reported to the board that National Library Week activities
will include visits by Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Prewitt to third grade
classes of the North Richland Hills el~mentary schools to present
programs. No fir~es on library materials will be charged during that
week, a nostalgia display on it~ms furnished by Mr. Baker, a member
of the board, and posters advertising library services will be placed
in tores around the area. Mrs. Prewitt also announced that Sanger-Harris
had invited the library to pres~nt a story hour program in the store
on April 12th, which will be done by Mrs. Dawn Anderson.
Mrs. Prewitt also announced that county fur~ding of `~5138.00 had been
received and that all the state and federal funding, approximately
E6800, has now b~en expended. The board was invited to visit the
t~hildren's area to see the new wall decorations purchased with money
from the book sale.
Mrs. Brinkley requested that board metnbers be aware and plan for the
Tarrant Regional Library Association meeting to be held at our Library
on May 18th. Board men~bers traditionally host this meeting.
Mrs. Brinkley read a letter from ~vernor Clements she had received
in reply to one she had written requ~sting state support of library
funding. Mr. Smotherman said that he had aiso written and received
a reply.
