Members present were: Mrs. Brinkley Mr. S. K. Baker Mrs. Mattie Belle Lewis Mrs. M. T. Daniel Mr. J. Fred Davis The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Mrs. Prewitt reported that the publicity received as a result of the hand-outs to the churches and bulletin board placements had seen results. There had been articles in all three newspapers about NationaZ Library Week and the video-cassette program. Mrs. Prewitt reported that during the ~irst week of this program six people had taken advantage of it. Mrs. Prewitt also reported that the library was considering leasing a bond copier. The leasing agreement provided for the Sable Corp. to p2ace a copy machine in the library under several plans, but at no cost to the library. Copies would be at either 10a or 15~ and Mrs. Prewitt was recommending that the 15¢ vend charge be the one to go with. The board discussed this and agreed that the cost factor wa~uld be of little concern to the users as it was a competitive and bulk copiers wovld go to special shops where the price was better. Mrs. Daniels suggested publicity be wide-spread on this service to help increase the use of the machine since this was a factor in the leasing of the machine. Mrs. Daniels asked how book donations were coming in this year. Mrs. Prewitt reported that they were coming in very well and seemed about as many as last year. She said that another attempt to begin a Friends of the Library organization would be in May. Mrs. Prewitt asked board members to encourage anyone they knew who was interested in serving on the library board to fill out an application as Dr. Ellis had indicated he did not wish to serve another term. Mrs. Brinkley discussed with members the refreshments board members wauld bring to the TRLA meeting to be held at the library on May 16th. Mrs. Prewitt discussed with board members ind, ividua~ly the need for the position of children's librarian and all concurred that this was an important position that needed to be filled. Mrs. Prewitt told board members that the notification for the next board meeting would be by letter as an exact time would depend on when the City Cou~hcil reappointed and appo~nted board members. ~
