Baker Mrs. Mattie Belle Lewi~a Dr. Norman Ellis Dr. Ron Smotherman Mrs. Charles Brinkley Mrs. Prewitt reported that circulation of library materials in January, of 198Q had totaled 10,232 as compared to the same itionth in 1979:of 8.182. Overdues had also increased 150 books for the month. Minutes of the last meeting were given to boaxd members. Minutes were read and approved. Mrs. Prewitt repc~rted that budget planning for the fiscal year 1980-81 was underway. Shelving requi.rements would b~ considered a primary request and would follow a five-year plan given to the city manager. Additional panels to the cassette display unit would be given consideration, and the next year would ~ean maintenance on the library portion of the building would be needed. This would not be a part of the library budget. Needs would include pain~~g the eneeting rbom and the workroom, and the r~placement of the gate with a glass enclosure and door would again be requ~sted. The first draft of the budget should be ready by the April meeting. Mrs. Prewitt requested the board give consideratian of recommendations to be made for long-term needs of the library. This would be dependent on city growth. Considerations of a small branch in the northern portion of the city might be a possibility, depending on the growka~i of the city. Autornation of the library would also be a consideration, dependent on funding from outside sources. Mrs. Prewitt stated that the theme af National Library Week this year would be the one being used by the American Library Association emphasizing the free services available at the library. Posters and articles in the paper will inform of the services available. The possibility of providing a half-page flyer listing services to be put in church bulletins was discussed. Mrs. Prewitt announced that there was a possibility the library would be a part of a six month pilot project ~o circulate video-cassettes. Mrs. Prewitt invited the board to plan to visit th~ Hurst Public Library's new building at the March board meeting, and announced that the TR~~A meeting would be hosted by the library in May.
