Members present: Mrs. Brinkley Mrs. Matti.e Belle Lewis Mr. S. J. Haicer Dr. Ron Smoth~rman Mrs. M. 2. Daniel Mr. J. Fred Davis Me~nber absent: Dr. Norman Ellis The minutes of the last meeting w~re read and approved; Mr. Baker made the motion, seconded by Dr. Smothern+an. Mrs. Prewitt reported that Ms. Lee Ann Turner has resigned as Library Assistant I and the position had b~en filled by the CETA employee Mrs. ~ita Keeney. CETA has placed a TCJC student ~rho is able to work 15 hours in the library. If a full-time CETA employee cannot be found, the library has budgeted a part-tirae position to be filled. Mrs. Prewitt also reported that the cassette display unit purchased with book sale funds has b~en installed and invited board me~nbers to view it. The copy machine has been changed to a coin-op machine~ to save the staff time e~nning copies. The staff has also completed the equivalent of inventorying the ~mplete collection to obtain the Library of Congress card numbe~ assigned to each baak written on the shelf list. The collection now totals 27,284. Mrs. Anderson presented a program for all the third grade students in North Richland Hills during Children's Book Week in ~November~ and M~s. Prewitt reported further that th~ staff had been attending CPr classes and workshops on public relations and reference work with the public. Members of the commission received copies of the annual report pr~pared for '~83f~i9 State Library. Mrs. Prewitt pointed out that circulation figures are up approximately 10 percent over 1979 figures. Mrs. Prewitt reported that the North Central Texas Film Coop, of which the library is a r~mber, is now almost paying for itself. Earnings from films owned by the library, but housed for circulation purposes at Richardson Public Library, were 5202.00. This money will be used to purchase a film, one of the requirements for ~nembership in the Coop. Mrs. Prewitt announced that in the spring another organization meeting would be held for a Friends of the Library group. The group would be in charge of the fall book sale and the collection of Dr. Pepp~r caps. Mrs. Prewitt reminded the members of the County Cornn+issioners meeting on January 29th at 9:30. Announcecnent of th~ budqet and budget hearings on funds for libraries for this fiscal year will be on the agenda. ~ Meeting adjourned. ~
