The ~eeting was called to order by Chaixperaon S,ynn O'Day.
The niinutes of the last m~eting (Septea~ber 23, 1981) were approved as subeni.tted.
The Library Director'~S written report was discussed. ~'iffany reported that ~oney
earned from The Frienda of the Library Book Sale ha~s been spemt to purchas~ the
new desk for Dswrn l?nderson, Children'~ Librarian. The desk will be located in
the childreMS' area to allovr Mrs. Anderson to provide reference service to patrons
tMroughout the day. This will also allow the A/V cabinets to be situated in a
visible area for teach+er~ use ar~d for staff to monitor.
Tiffany reported that a atreet map of ric~rth Ri.chland Hills and snrroundinq areas
has be~n placed at the circt~lation d~sk. Patrons are being asked to place a pin
at their place of residence. This information will show where the ~aajority of
our patroMS live.
It was announced that 3wsan Uribe will a~ssist the library staff as a new volunteer.
She will be checking acquis~tion lists and preparing book biblic~graphies for
Tiff~ny. Anoth~r vol~nte~r, ~Toseph t~ara, has consented to attend a four-day
training session by the Internal Revenue Department. Sn the spring he will assist
Iibrary? patrons w3.th their ineoa+e taut questions.
There will b~ an Iridolc~gy Lecture (study of the i~is of the eye) at the LibraL7r
Wednesday, Nove~+ber 11 at 7 p.m. The speaker, 5aean~ye Lamb, is a I~laster Herbalist
who believes you can determine the health of a person by the condition of tMe
iris.
Tiffany has b~n invited to Chaaiber of Con~rce 25th Ar~niversa~y I~anquet in
November along with other City Officials. Gov. Bi1.1 Cle~ents wi,ll be the guest
speaker.
The dtcisicn was made to postpone any PR lett~rs tc btisinesses until the Business
Reference ~ollection is expanded.
It was annour?ced that the library would have a"~kin Hash" for the children
on Halloween. Their decorated pumpkins will be judg~d and prizes given.
The Board will keep librsry progres~ reparts in new yellow notebooks that were
handed out by Tiffany.
Lynn 0'Day reported that she and Tiffany had attended a w~orkshop at the Richaxd-
son Public Library on October 14. Alice Ihrig, a nationally knawn Library
Trustee from Illinois, stress~d the im~portance of Library Hoard members ~s 2ead~rs
of the co~nvnity and urged trustees to be aware of qood public relations for the
library on a dail~r basis.
The need to help ~he Friends of the NRH Library reor~ai'iize was discussed. This
~ item was tabled ~nt31 another time. .

It was announced that Sllaa,ryl Gr~ove will represent tk~e Cit~ Cc~uncil on the
Board.

A Needs Ass~ssment Sudy will b~ started in Janusry, 1982.
The next meeting was charu~ed to November 18, at 3:30 p.~a. in Room 100
because of the Thank~giving holiday. Tiffany will canduct a"Behind the
Scen~" tour of the library. The possibility of lonq~r meetings Kas also
discussed.
