Fred Davis Jim ~cker The meeting was called to order by our new Cha~rperson, Lynn O~Day. ZR~e mtnutes of the last meeting (August 26, 1981) were approved as submitted. The Library Director elaborated further upon her report to the Board regarding the Monbe Stewart "Look in a Book" video tape series that will be produced through North Texas Library System funds. She has been asked to chair an ad hoc committee who will a~vise Mr. Stewsrt on the library aspects of his shows. Each library in the System will receive tapea of this series of fifteen shows for in-house and circulating use, hopefully by ~pring '82. Tiffany also updated the Board on the status of the City's municipal Cable channel. At present the Community Cable Advisory Panel is studying the specific needs of each municipal department and the citizen~s needs in general, to determine the staffing, equipment and funds necessary to support these needs. The administration of the messages to be transmitted through the char~±acter gen~rator has been given to the Library. The character generator will be housed in the Director's office, under lock and key for security. In the absence of Norma Thompsan, Tiffany reported on the Friends of the NRH Library's Annual Book Sa3~e. A special request has been made to the Board members to work sometime dur~nq October 2 and 3 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Lynn O~Day offered to put a post~r at the Birdville Coliseum during the craft fair that weekend. Polly Brinkley agre~ci to continue as the Library~s layperson representative on the Advisory Council of the North Texas Library System for the coming year. Methods of promoting the Library were next discussed. Suggestions made in- cluded putting library directional signs at the Holiday Lane exit, at Davis Blvd/Maplewood and Rufe Snow/Maplewood intersections. Tiffany will contact the City's Public Works Department on this. The Hoard also re- qaested that Tiffany write a public relations piece about the Library and ask local organizations to include it in their bulletins. The Board requested that flawers be sent to Mrs. Julie Smotherman who is recuperating from surgery at Glenview Hospital. Th~ flowers will be a joint gift with the Friends of the Library who also wanted to send flowers to her. The Board decided to undertake with the Director a study of the 3..ibrary and informational needs of NRH and to plan for the anticipated population growth in the next few years.
