August 26, 1981
The meetinq was called to order by Mrs. Polly Brinkley. Present were:

Mrs. Polly Brinkley w~elcomed Jim Tucker to his first meetinq as a member
of the North Richland Hills Library Commission. (Mr. Tucker replaces
S.K. Baker.)
The minutes of the last meetinq (May 2T, 1981) were approved as submitted.
Tiffany Nourse reported that the library now has the assistance of tw~o
volunteers, Carol Raymor and Helen Hennessey. The staff has received them
enthusiastically. The Director also informed the Board that the following
periodical subscriptions have been dropped from the 1982 order: America,
Rrizona Hiqhwavs, Farm Journal, ~ International Wildlife and Writer.
Mrs. Nourse also reported that the library is not scheduling or planr~ing
Cable TV programs. Programning needs and available resources have not
been identified as yet by the Community Advisory Cable Panel.
Mrs. Brinkley read a note from Laura Prewitt thanking the Board for the
farewell dinner party held in her honor before she left for retirenient.
Mrs. Prewitt had served the Library since 1972.
New officers were elected unanimausly as follows:

Vice-Chairperson: Polly Brinkley
Secretary: Tiffany Nourse
Tiffany Nourse explain~d that the Friends of the Library wme.ild have their
Annual Book Sale in the fall. The tentative dates are October 2 and 3.
They need as much cooperation as possible from the Board.
Mrs. Nourse reported that a patmn fro~ Keller had objected to qiving

and her aqe on the library application form. The Board discussed this
and decided that no ehanges need be made on the cards but that if a patron
objected to giving infornaation about their spouse, it could be omitted.
The Board denied a request by Deanie Owens' Better Homes and Gardens Real
Estate to place in the Library their Real Estate Csreer folders. This
was because the folders included the name of the company.

The Board also denied a request by the Watchtower religious organization
to add their reliqious materials to the library collection...with tw~
exceptions. Their Bible translation and a title an doctrine are of
research value and may be added.
Mrs. Nourse reported that the Library Directors of Grapevine, Euless,
Bedford, Lewisville and North Richland Hills had met to discuss the
information and functior?s they would like to have written into the
circulation automation programs. Basically they include the circulatioa,
ordering and tt?e statistical reperting needs of the Iibraries. Grapevine
Public Library will work closely with a progrart~ner to write these computer
programs, will input their proqrams first, then operate it to identify
and correct problems. This will take almost 12 rt~nths in all. North
Richland Hills LibraYy can then start to automate.
J. Fred Davis spoke of the Library to promot~ its imaqe throughout
the conuaunity. The Board agreed and the Director said she would like
to develope his ideas further.
The next meetinq was planned for 4 P.M. September 23, 1981.
