The following members were present: Mrs. Lewis Mrs. Lynn o'Day Mr. S. K. Baker Rev. Ron Smotherman Mrs. M. T. Daniels Norma Thompson The minutes of the last meeting were read. Mr. Baker moved they be accepted as read; Rev. Smotherman seconded. Motion passed. Mrs. Lewis reported that Mrs. Brinkley was out of town. Mrs.,:Prewitt reported that rnembers were receiving quite a few reports because of the several months since the last tneeting. New shelving, being paid for out of the Library and Park Fund this year, had unexpectedly arrived in 13ovember instead of March as in past years. Mrs. Pr~witt said that money to pay for this had begnn ~e reserved in July. As a result of early payment book purchases were still being c~'tailed, but should pick back up in another month. She reported that th~ staff is weeding the fiction section to withdraw all fiction books without dust covers that have not been checked out since 1972. Despite shelving purchases space in still needed for new books. ~ ' Mrs. Prewitt reported to the board that the appropriations bill for the state is before the senate fin~ce committee and a hearing to be heard on Feb. 3rd at 2:00. Cars are going to Austin to be at the hearing to urge spending more than 28a percapita for libraries. A rider to the bill specifies t2~at this funding will go to all libraries that are legally established public libraries, whether they meet standards set up by state law or not. The board asked Mrs. Prewitt to draft a letter to give to th~m to use as a basis for writing state senators co~s~erning these issues. Mrs. Prewitt read and compared the statistics in this year's Annual Report to the Texas Library. Circulation had jumped from 106,389 to 118,707. Expenditures reported this y~ar did not include in-kind contributions, utilities paid for by the city that are not included in the library budget. Mrs. Prewitt reported that the new li.brary policy manual for employees had been finished and the final copy given to Mr. Williams. She asked that the board read over the copies she had available for them. Mr. Baker asked if there were~any new policies from the old one they had read. Mrs. Prewitt said there were not. Rev. Smotherman moved that the board accept the basic policies with the understanding that all n~w policies and amendments would be brought to the board for approval as in the past. Mr. Baker seconded; motion passed. " Meeting adjourned.
