The iaeeting of the ATorth Richland Hills Library Commission was
brought to order by Chairperson Lynn O'Day.
The following tnembers were present:

The minutes of the May 26, 1982 meeting were approved as submitted.
Update of the Dir~ctor's Report:
Arlita Hallam has been hired as the Adult Services Librarian
and will b~gin w~orking October 11, 1982. Arlita earned her
Masters in Library Science at the University of Illinois and
has served as director crf" the Normal ar~d Fondulac District
Libraries in Illinois and for the past four years, as Director
of Public Services of the Abilene Public Library.
Pre-school story hour on Tuesday mornings has increased in
attendance during 3eptetaber. At least six schools have been
_ represented with 200-125 children attending each session.
Volunteer Ray Nowe has been ver~? ably assisting Dawn Anderson
on story-hour mornings.
The Friends of the Library annual Honk Sale is to be held in
Northeast Mall, October 8 and 9. Tiffany asked the members
for their support and help in selling the ~aany books donated
during the year. Proceeds will be used for buying a book cart,
a desk chair for volunteers and other library equipment.
The video studio for Citicable 36 has been built in the library
by CBS/Black Hawk Cable Co.cporation. The equipment will be
mmved into it immediately.
Lyr~e1 O'Day r~ported that she has heard good reports on the library
froa~ various citizens of North Richland Hills. Many are especially
pleased with Children's Services.
1~ew Business:
The following n~mbers were ~lected by acclamation as officers
of the North Richland Hills Library Commission for 1982-83.

I~ was reported that library patron Mrs. Mary McCoy has filed a
complaint with the Library Director for reconsideration of th~
book Glitterburn by H~ywr~od Gould. At that tinae, Mrs. Nourse
explained the Fr~edo~ to Read statement adopted by the Aenerican
Library Association and the 1~laterials Selection Policy to Mrs.
McCoy. The Hoard discussed the problem, arid it was decided that
Mrs. O'Day would write a letter to Mra. McCoy explaining the
Commission•s decision on the complaint. (Attached to the secre-
tary's zninutes are copies of the complaint and letter of reply.)
Mrs. 0•Day asked the Board to consid~r giving leadership to a
five-year library study. The goal of the study is to survey the
re~idents and busin~ss~nen of North Richland Hills to determine
the best way to serve them.
The next meeting of tMe Library Commi.ssion will be in R~o~a 100,
Wedn~sday, October 27, 1982, at 3:30 p.m.
