North Richland Hills Library Board
~ October 26, 1983
The North Richland Hills Library Board meeting was brought to
order by new Chairperson Vic Darrough in Room 100 of the
library on Wednesday, October 26, 1983, at 3:40 p.m. The
following members were present:
Bob Courser
Vic Darrough
Marie Hinkle
Mattie Belle Lewis
Tiffany Nourse
Absent: Polly Brinkley, Jan Daniels and Lynn 0'Day
The minutes of the September 28, 1983 Board meeting were approved
as submitted.
Reports:
The Library Director reported that two-thirds of the new
sculpture, and at least ten art prints have been checked
. out by patrons during their first month of circulation.
Six new ranges of shelving have been added to the library
to house new books as they 'are received. In~pite of the
addition of these new items, the Library do~s not seem
overcrowded.
The annual statistics for 1982-83 were discussed. Mrs.
Nourse pointed out that circulation had risen by 19 percent,
even greater~that the 12 percent increase the previous year.
The North Richland Hills Public Library Plan of Service--Goals
and Objectives for 1984-1988 were discussed. The members saw
no objections or problems with them.
Vic Darrough suggested that the Library Director, with her
staff, study the Goals and Ob~ectives and make suggestions
on how to implement them to the Board members at a future
meeting.
Communications:
A letter of resignation, submitted by Jim Tucker and stating
his time constraints, was read. A motion was made by Mattie
Belle Lewis to accept the resignation, seconded by Bob
Courser; motion was approved.
Unfinished Business:
It was reported that the total proceeds from the Annual Friends
of the North Richland Hills Book Sale totaled $702.
Miscellaneous expenses in preparation of the sale totaled
$90, leaving a net profit of $612. It was the first time for
the Book Sale to be held in the Library.
Norma Thompson, chairperson of the Friends, was commended for
her many hours of work in helping to make this sale a success.

It was reported that the name change for the North Richland
Hills Library Board, but not the Bylaws, would have to be
approved by the City Council.
New Business:
On Monday, October 24, 1983, a tour of the library was
conducted by the Board for the City Council members.
Marie Hinkle stated that the Council members seemed well
pleased with the appearance and progress of the library.
It was suggested that a public Open House be planned in
April during National Library Week.
Upon the resignation of Jim Tucker, Vic Darrough asked for
suggestions £or names of persons who might want to serve
on the Library Board. The name of Kay Schmidt was re-
commended at the meeting. It was suggest~d that Vic
telephone the absent Board members to reach a quorum
before the name was submitted to the Mayor.
Ad~ournment:
The next meeting of the Board will be postponed until
~ Wednesday, November 30, 1983, because of the Thanksgiving
holiday.
A motion to adjourn at 4:25 p.m. was made b~ Bob Courser,
seconded by Mattie Belle Lewis; motion was approved.
