HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 1984-03-28 Minutes North Richland Hills Library Board Ma.rch 28 , 1984 The North Richland Hills Library Board met in Room 100 of the Library on Wednesday, March 28, 1984, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting was brought to order by Chairperson Vic Darrough at 3:35 p.m. with the following members present: Polly Brinkley Bob Courser Jan Daniels Vic Darrough Tiffany Nourse Lynn 0'Day Kay Schmidt Absent: Ma.rie Hinkle (City Council liaison) and Mattie Belle Lewis. The minutes of the February 22, 1984 Board meeting were approved as submitted. Reports: In addition to the Library Director's written report, there were several more points of interest: Tiffany reported that the Agile terminal, which will allow the library to input its shelf list for automation, should be installed and ready for use by April 7. The Citicable 36 studio, dressed up with a new, black backdrop, is ready to cablecast the League of Women Voters Forum at 7:30 p.m. on March 29, 1984. Candidates seeking City Council seats on April 7, 1984, will be interviewed by a representative of the League. It was also reported that a Decision Packa.ge for the 1984-85 Budget has been turned in...a request for glass doors to the Library which will reduce the noise coming from the City Hall foyer to the Library. Remember good public relations are always important. Mrs. Nourse shared with the members of the Board that Rev. Jones, of Richland Hills Church of Christ, praised the North Richland Hills staff in a Sunday morning sermon. He had very kind words about the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff to the public. Old Business: There was a general discussion on a complete fine policy change for the North Richland Hills Public Library. The members decided on the following schedule of recommended fines to be submitted to City Council for approval: Current Recommended 1. Overdue fine for books, film- .05~ per day .10~ per day strips, book and cassette kits, 1.50 maximum 3.00 maximum and audio cassettes. 2. Overdue fine for art prints, .05~ per day 1.00 per day _ sculpture, computer software, 1.50 maximum 30.00 maximum 16 mm films. 3. Overdue fine for video cassettes. 1.00 per day same 30.00 maximum (Board minutes con. p.2) The members were also reminded of the Library Board workshop to be held May 1, 1984, at the Weatherford Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The topic of the training session is "Catalyst For Action". Registration will be required. The Board terms of Polly Brinkley, Jan Daniels, Vic Darrough, and Lynn 0'Day will expire in Ma.y, 1984. It was requested that the members recommend several new applicants in case one of the above members cannot or does not wish to serve again. New Business: The annual reception for the Library Volunteers will be hosted by the North Richland Hills Library Board during National Volunteer Week on Wednesday, May 9, 1984, at 2:00 p.m. in the home of Lynn 0'Day. The library will send invitations to the volunteers; refreshments will be furnished by Board members. A discussion of a new library facility site followed. No action was taken. Adjournment: The next Board meeting wi11 be Wednesday, April 25, 1984, at 3:30 p.m. There being no further business, Vic adjourned the meeting at 5:00 p.m.
