May 22, 1985
The North Richland Hills Library Board met in Room 100 of the library at
3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 1985. In the absence of Chairman Bob
Courser, tha meeting was called to order by Kay Schmidt.
The minutes of April 17, 1985 were approved as submitted.
On June 1, after three years as Adult Services Librarian, Arlita Hallam will
assume her duties as new Library Director for North Richland Hills. Arlita
was introduced by Mrs. Nourse, who will retire May 31 after serving as Library
Director since July, 1981.
City Manager Rodger Line requested that the Library Director prepare a Building
Program narrative delineating the specific needs for a new library. After
receiving the City Manager's approval, the narrative and recommendation from
the Library Board in preparation for the Bond Issue Campaign this summer will
be presented to the City Council. By June 9, the City Council will have a
plan for the management of the Bond Issue Campaign.
A discussion followed on forma.tion of an ad hoc committee of interested citizens
who will work to "get out the vote" for the Bond Referendum. Mickey Oxford
offered to chair this committee~ Library Volunteer Mary Gillespie will serve
as treasurer.
It was reported that $319,425 has been proposed for library expeditures in
the proposed 1985-86 Budget.
New of£icers for the Library Board are elected each May. Lynn 0'Day nominated
Kay Schmidt as chairman and Mickey Oxford as vice-chairman. The vote was
unanimously in favor of this slate.
Th.e next Library Board meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdaq, June 19,
1985.
