The motion carried. The board discussed the dress code for the teen attorneys. Cherie made a motion to revise the dress code policy to include hose for the females. Skirt length should be consistent with that of the Birdville school dress code. The motion was seconded by Cheri and passed by the board. Cheri made a motion to change the scholarship application deadline to January 15, beginning next year. The new deadline would give the committee more time to evaluate the applicants and to allow for mid-term graduates. The motion was seconded by Cherie and it carried. After our last meeting, Jim checked our by-laws and found that quarterly meetings were acceptable. Kathy made a motion to meet quarterly in January, April, July and October. It was seconded by Lucy and the motion passed. New Business The board discussed the many changes in teen court procedure over the past year. It was noted that the court runs more smoothly. Less volunteer time is required of board members, than in years past. Cheritl has learned that several neighboring school districts offer high school or college credit for teen attorneys. She will discuss this with the Birdville school district. With this in mind, Kathy made a motion to limit the number of teen volunteers to 20 at any given time, with a waiting list created. Vanessa seconded the motion and it passed. Cheri made the following announcements regarding the Bar Association of Texas: Tony was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Northeast Region Advisory Board. Cheri was elected Chairperson of the Northeast Region Board of Directors. TCBAT's newest members include Lewisville, Lubbock, Fort Bend County and Galveston County teen courts. Impact Program-February, 2000. June Conference-June 8& 9, 2000. After announcing that she was elected chairperson, Cheri has reluctantly decided that she will no longer be able to remain a member of the bar association, after this October, due to the added responsibilities of her job. This will mean that our teens can no longer participate in the bar association. This decision was met with much disappointment by the board. In light of the increasing case load and the added responsibilities, the board will explore the possibility of requesting assistance for Cheri for the next budget year. Adjournment 7:40 p.m.
