THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 4, 1980
PUBLIC WORKS & UTILITIES
I. Pete Pistole - How do we get Civil Service agenda to post in the
shops and work areas for those employees who never come into the
City Hall Building?
SOLUTION: The CS Secretary will make extra copies and hand one
to the Public Works Clerk to place in Pets's mailbox.
2. Pete Pistole - How can we separate the maintenance people in
Parks & Recreation from the Street Department? (separate duties)
SOLUTION: The CS Secretary will talk to Dennis Horvath about
writing a new job description for Parks & Recreation
Maintenance.
(Dennis said he will write a new job description.
- 3. Pete Pistole - How can we be assured that next year's cost of
living will be.added to the BASE for new hires and trot just a
prorated share? (apply to the position and not to the person)
SOLUTION:
_,
4. Various - Complaints regarding the Dental Coverage being too limited.
SOLUTION: Consider adding more coverage by next contract date.
5. Ronnie Sansom - Suggested we should have a full -time clerk for
handling all insurance questions and paperwork.
SOLUTION: CS will discuss this with the City Manager.
6. Tony Slisz - Many employees are concerned about more "take- home"
pay and asked the City pay some additional benefits. Since insurance
is a benefit which we may or may not actually use, could the City
look at paying Social Security or retirement?
SOLUTION: CS will discuss with management in a worksession.
7. Ann Eudaley - Complained that new hires are making as much or more
than some who have 2 - 3 years seniority.
SOLUTION: Her current salary is $985.63/mo. and new hires are
earning $811.53. (What is the problem ?)

8. Mike Duncan - Asked if the City would place more emphasis on
increasing BASE pay and take home pay instead of more benefits.
SOLUTION: (See No. 6)
9. Mike Duncan - Does the present Council look at the Fire Department
on a level with the Police Department as for salaries? How did
the proposed pay plan reflect parity between the two departments?
SOLUTION: According to Dennis Horvath the proposed pay plan
definitely reflected parity in pay for these two
departments. This was accepted by the City Council.
10. Desi Smyth - Referred to efforts made by the Police Department to
upgrade Clerk IIs' in their department. She expressed that a
comparison of actual duties performed should be done before some
are paid more than others.
SOLUTION: The Commission reminded her that an examination is
required for any new job classification.
SUGGESTION: Submitted by Floyd McCallum - That the CS Commission
provide a suggestion BOX for year around convenience
